Important words of encouragement and inspiration for all of us in the Sandwich Generation to remember for ourselves and to teach to our families.
My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him. Psalm 62:5
And we are blessed to remember that we are in good company, including Noah and his family…
Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water came upon the earth…In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened… Now it came about in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was dried up. In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry. Then God spoke to Noah, saying, "Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons' wives with you. Genesis 7:6, 11, 13-16
Noah was 600 years, 2 months, 17 days old at the beginning of the flood and 601 years, 1 month, 1 day old when he was able to leave the ark = a LONG time to WAIT! (Probably full of not-great smells!)
And that doesn't count the amount of time to build the ark. That was an even LONGER time to WAIT!
All of us dealing with the Sandwich Generation issues know that WAITing is a big part of our lives (and we may also be dealing with a variety of difficult and, yes, smelly situations.) But thanks be to God, we have sweet hope in HIm through it all!
I like this post.
May God bless you abundantly in your season of waiting.
Great post. I never would have put the two together. Have a wonderful day!
🙂 Thanks Kathleen. God’s been doing a LOT of teaching on the subject of Waiting lately and showing me all SORTS of examples from one year to hundreds. That’s definitely an area I need a lot of work on as my patience level was never that long in the past. 🙂
Thanks Chelle! 🙂
Thanks Denise – I know you are another who has been learning a lot about waiting and patience too! It’s a tough lesson, but a good one, isn’t it? 🙂
