This week my extended Sandwich Generation family has been dealing with some very difficult issues. While not directly impacting me, they have kept me busy praying a LOT! One prayer request popped up in the middle of church, while we were singing hymns. A loved one, very upset, needed some extra attention, so I quietly left early – something I almost never do.
Sitting in the foyer, texting words of encouragement to this beloved and praying all the while, I was temporarily interrupted by a friend from the choir. She had just left the choir loft after their song and was headed into church. I told her what I was doing and asked her to pray as well. We talked about the comfort we both knew well from Romans 8:28 – a verse God has really been emphasizing in my heart this past month.
What a sweet joy to lift the spirits of one loved one long distance and have my spirits lifted by another dear friend right there in church. And what a blessing to see God using the traditional ways of encouraging and the high-tech ways in this day and age.
We live in a world with so many dark and gloomy headlines, just as Jesus did when He died on the cross for us. But thanks to His precious sacrifice then, we can continue on now – knowing that no matter what is happening, GOD IS IN CONTROL. Delightful words of encouragement for all of us, in AND out of the Sandwich Generation, during this bittersweet season of Lent.
As Guy Penrod reminds us so wonderfully in the sweet Christian hymn, On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand," all other ground is, indeed, sand. I pray this video is a blessing to all of us – from our grandchildren on up to our beloved elderly parents and grandparents.
Coming from Faith Filled Friday…I love that hymn as well…and such a wonderful blog for that sandwich generation! Blessings!
When we encourage one another, we are encouraged.
Lovely post…God bless
A hymn from my childhood. I’ve held on to that Solid Rock so often. I’m passionate about encouragement (sheltering) and love stories of how others encourage–ready when the opportunity presents itself.
My children use text messages, but my phone is not set up for that. It is wonderful how a simple text message can bless another person, by letting them know you care and are praying.
How lovely to have another person pass by just in time to agree with you in prayer.
