All the fun my grandkids and I had making a personalized Christmas tree ornament for gifts for the various family members from the elderly grandparents to the tweens, along with their young brothers and sisters yesterday have really got me thinking about Christmas tree ornaments in general. As I wrote, I loved giving a new and personalized ornament to each child every year until they moved out, so they had a complete set to take with them to their new home.
I also have enjoyed giving and receiving unique Christmas ornaments to and from various friends and relatives. I have so many special ones on the tree each year, like this delightful angel.
Christmas ornaments and other decorations can also be sweet gifts, full of your family memories, when they are given as a memorial for a dear one who has gone on to heaven. After my dad died, my senior mom and I were out shopping for stocking holders for a new arrangement I was working on for my chimney. She spotted one that made her think of my dad, who had passed away earlier that year, after dealing with the end stage of his Parkinsons Disease. She got such a sweet smile on her face as we bought it and later when we hung it on the bookshelf, complete with a cute stocking.
Perhaps your senior parent has a faithful granddog or grandcat. If so, there are plenty of cute cat and dog Christmas ornaments that will bring a smile to their face.
On a happy note, if you or your senior parent have been blessed with a wedding of a child or grandchild and they received one of the special little momentos that are so popular with brides and grooms right now, such as a bottle of bubbles, or a faux flower from one of the bouquets, those can often be turned into a treasured and very personalized Christmas tree ornament.
And, of course, there is always the cute personalized Christmas ornament specific to a grandparent.
These are all such special ways to enjoy your family memories at Christmas and what special gifts for the elderly parents and relatives in your lives that have the added bonus of not taking up a lot of room. That’s especially helpful if they’ve had to downsize due to health issues – whether by moving in with you or living in an assisted living facility. Definitely delightful ways to put a smile on the lips and a warm feeling in the heart!
Speaking of hearts – this cute heart is part of a unique set of Christmas tree ornaments I love as they are adorable, pretty pink, and gifts from dear friends. Full of sweet family memories, it’s a perfect way to say Happy Pink Saturday. And at Pink Saturday, they are sharing their favorite holiday recipes. My favorite holiday recipe for Christmas is also one of my family’s favorite Thanksgiving side dish recipes – my Grandma’s Thanksgiving noodles!
