Summer Smiles for Sandwich Generation Caregivers

Summer Speed

How’s your summer going? As crazy busy as mine seems to be? Hopefully it’s also been as fun as mine. What with great clients, fun VBS projects, terrific neighborhood gatherings and more, I’m definitely hopping!

Summer Stillness

One day last week, as I was out showing homes before heading home to post photos of our neighborhood gathering for National Night Out 2016, a song came on. Breathe by Jonny Diaz.

As I listened to it, I was reminded of God’s Word from Psalm 46:10:

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

It’s a very popular song in our area right now, so I have heard it several times. And each time I do, I keep reminding myself of this verse and its vital truth – to just settle my heart on God and make sure to keep everything – caregiving, real estate, volunteering, the upcoming elections, EVERYTHING in the right priority and perspective and “be still and KNOW that GOD is GOD!!! Very encouraging, for me – and I hope for you!  Definitely an important part of “caring for the caregiver.”

Summer Colors

Here’s a coloring page of the verse as well – fun for kids, grandkids, and even many senior parents.

Summer Seniors

Speaking of crafts and senior parents, my sweet mom is thoroughly enjoying word search puzzles. She started them to help her memory and has really liked them. She was thrilled with the latest Word Search book I gave her – The The Everything Large-Print Bible Word Search Book: 150 inspirational puzzles – now in large print! She loved the topic AND the large print. Very cool!

Summer Games

Talking about slowing down and taking it easier – here’s a fun game I’ve heard of for years but never played until this week. At a family gathering, we pulled it out and and thoroughly enjoyed it. My granddaughter did great AND so did I – which totally surprised me. My mom didn’t try it but had fun watching us. A great game for all ages. What is it you ask? It’s called Corn Hole Bean Bag Toss.

You can make your own (my loved ones did and it’s gorgeous). You can find directions for how to do that by clicking here plus I’ve saved them at my Pinterest Board – Grand for Kids and Grandkids. Or you can just purchase them in a variety of places including at my fave – Amazon. 🙂 I’ve added this as a possible Christmas family gift for some loved ones this year. I love to give gifts that encourage family togetherness, don’t you? 🙂

Wikipedia has info on its history AND how to score. The nice thing is that it’s quite easy for all so even our youngest grandkids can have fun throwing the bags. We’ve got a couple of sets at my church and I love it when they set it up near the door I’m often greeting at. It’s so much fun to watch the toddlers having has much fun as their parents and grandparents. 🙂

Summer Blessing

Here’s hoping our week to come is sunny, sweet, and full of His blessing along with moments of stillness as we reflect on God’s love and power, while caring for all He’s put into our lives. 🙂
