Daily Living Made Easier

Psalm 119 is full of encouraging and uplifting Bible verses to warm the hearts of all of us in the Sandwich Generation. There are plenty of comforting Bible verses in there as well. Two that qualify for all three of these “titles” are Psalm 119:160-161. They are rich with beauty in the King James version:

Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of Thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of Thy word.

I also love the Message version:

Your words all add up to the sum total: Truth. Your righteous decisions are eternal. I’ve been slandered unmercifully by the politicians, but my awe at Your words keeps me stable.

I thought it was great timing to use these verses with the elections right around the corner. But really, it’s not just princes and politicians we have to be concerned about. It can be our own family members – particularly those suffering from dementia symptoms. I remember when one relative, in the depths of dementia, was convinced everyone was stealing from her. And another was sure her son hated her guts – even though he took such good care of her.

Garden Of Promise is one of the Thomas Kinkade Tapestry Throws and reminds us God always keeps His promises

It’s not easy caring for elderly parents when illness or medicine causes them to distrust us, yell at us, be unkind to us, etc. We can often find ourselves resenting these seniors we love so much. It’s even worse for those caring for elderly parents who did not have a good relationship over the years – and there are so many in that particular situation.

Praise God, though, that there is One Who can enable us to “keep on keeping on” even in the midst of these types of trials and tribulations. He has promised to provide abundantly for us, to never leave us or forsake us, and to guide us with His rod and staff. So many wonderful promises of God in the Bible! And we can trust Him fully knowing that, indeed, His words do add up to TRUTH! I don’t know about you, but I can honestly say, I am right there with the psalmist in declaring that the awesome Word of God does truly keep me stable! What a joy for the Sandwich Generation to be able to surrender ourselves fully to Him and cling to this promise about all of His promises!

  6. So true. It is so sad when a person’s personality changes so radically with dementia. I still feel badly when I recall being impatient with my own sweet dear mother when she would ask me a question that I had just answered seconds before and again seconds before that and on and on. She always recognized me though and was still her sweet lovable self. She just couldn’t remember from one second till the next. I look forward to seeing her again in the next life when she will have her mind returned to her.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  7. An interesting blog–and ministering to a significant need. Good on ya!

My own blog has a nich of its own–serving the thousands of Christians around the world who love our traditional hymns. If you’re among them, I invite you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns.

And if you’ll excuse a brief “commercial:” If you do not have a good book on the subject of our Christmas carols, I encourage you to take a look at my own, Discovering the Songs of Christmas. In it, I discuss the history and meaning of 63 carols and Christmas hymns. The book is available through Amazon, or directly from Jebaire Publishing. (Might make a great gift too!)

  8. Hi Robert, Nice to “chat” with you again. 🙂 And what a nice looking book! Thanks for letting us know about it. I do, indeed, love the sweet old praise and worship hymn songs along with contemporary praise music. God has richly blessed my life with both types of music, and the sites you work with are great resources. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
