Grandparent Smiles
My busy summer continues as does the summer HEAT! But now it’s being interwoven with hints of AUTUMN smiles to come! And, of course, that will be followed, all too quickly, by holiday joys and winter chills! The years just seem to zip by, don’t they? This week I was blessed to spend some quality time with grandkids and it was full of sweet smiles! Now, it’s my granddog who is following me around the house, giving me his soulful gaze as he finishes his plate WAY too fast and I am still eating. And yes, he’s an adorable joy too!
Pokemon Go Tips and Tricks
You’ll probably laugh when I tell you about my latest post at my local blog, Roseville California Joys. It’s all about the latest craze, Pokemon Go. I’m quite happy that, so far, my grandkids have not delved into it. Yes, it can be fun, Yes, it does get kids outside and walking more. And yes, if they are doing it as a family project, which many are, it’s probably just fine and full of happy chats and smiles.
Unfortunately, not all kids are being as careful as they need to be, or sticking with a group or buddy system. That has led to some teens being robbed by others who figured out where Pokemon Critters were and hid there! Not fun! You can read more about that by clicking here. Yes, it’s a Roseville article BUT most of it applies wherever you live and has tips, tricks, and caveats to help you in case any of YOUR grandkids have taken it up.
Senior Gardening Tomato Sorrows and Sunflower Smiles
My senior mom’s garden is down to the last two tomatoes on the last of her plants. It was not a great year for her tomato plants. But she felt better after she read an article in our local paper, the Sacramento Bee. Apparently it was a bad tomato year for most everyone due to the heat! The article did list some of the best plants of the bunch though, so we’ll remember those for next year and hope for more smiles then. Did you have a summer garden? How did it do?
We discovered this past week that her bird feeding joys will have to end as the seeds apparently are attracting the wrong kind of critter to our yard. Probably due to the heat as well. So she decided to forego the seed and add a bird bath or two, along with some bird-attracting flowers like lovely sunflowers and coneflowers. Plenty of smiles with them! She’s been enjoying watering them and talking to them this past week. Floral smiles, indeed.
Cool Bible for Teens
One of my grandsons had a birthday recently. We discovered a great Bible to give him as part of his birthday gift. It was time for a big kids’ Bible…past time really….he’s a TEEN!!!!! Very COOOOOOOL! I was leaning towards my personal favorite – the Life Application Study Bible for Teens. But since they already had one in their bookshelf, I went with a new-to-me and very cool Bible for students including teens and older kids – the Apologetics Study Bible by Josh McDowell’s son, Dr. Sean McDowell, and the Holman Bible Staff. We have long been blessed by Josh McDowell’s ministry including his books More Than A Carpenter and Evidence that Demands a Verdict, which his son Sean McDowell helped write. I think it will be an excellent resource for my grandkids! I ordered my grandson one with a leather like cover in brown
(There’s also a lovely one with shades of pink).
I also ordered the Kindle version of the Apologetics Study Bible for myself.
I’m really looking forward to using it with him over the year to come.
Encouraging Verses and Scripture Picture
All this talk of senior gardening and the Bible reminded me of one of my fave encouraging verses. You could kinda paraphrase it like,
The tomatoes fail…..
the grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever.
Smiles for you
Have a blessed and beautiful week full of encouraging Bible verses and sweet joys.
