Daily Living Made Easier

Apples are good but prayer is better for the Sandwich Generation granny nanny and grandkidsjpgSchool is back in full swing for us! And have you noticed that the older our grandkids get, the harder their homework gets? For those of us in the Sandwich Generation who are "homework helpers," that can mean extra brain power is required from them AND us. When it comes to English and spelling, I do fine. Even history isn't too bad. But math and science – talk about headaches for this granny nanny.

Last week, one grandchild and I were trying to work through a new math lesson and it just wasn't getting through. I understood it, kind of, but wasn't explaining it clearly enough for them to "get it." Then again, their teacher hadn't been able to either.

I totally understand, because that's how geometry has always been for me. But i was mad at myself. NOT because of the difficulties figuring it out. BUT because it took me 20 minutes to remember to STOP and PRAY.

Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my groaning. Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray. Psalm 5:1-2

Prayer is our best weapon when it comes to homework help. My grandchild still didn't "get" it, but we were able to work through most of the work much more happily, with some questions for the teacher.

And YAY! Three days later, I got a text, with a picture taken with my grandchild's cell phone – showing a similar problem – WORKED CORRECTLY! Isn't God AWESOME! And isn't prayer POWERFUL! So WHY do I not remember it instantly EVERY time. But someday…in heaven…

In the meantime, you'll find more encouraging and inspirational Bible verses at Internet Cafe Devotions. And…

I have helped our 11 year old grandson with Math and felt like I didn’t know anything. Everything new is not always the best.

  1. I had to chuckle. We are so dumb sometimes……..not at Math etc but at remembering that it is not all about us. How often I forget.

  2. Good verse to remember. I often misplace something and cannot remember where it is. One day it dawned on me that God is El Roi, the God who sees, so I decided to start asking Him to show me what ever it was I misplaced. Sometimes I will find it in a few minutes, sometimes days later, but He always answers my prayer.

That is precious, Kaye. I loved math, but some of it taught these days is not easy, I know. I’m glad my grandson is so smart. 🙂 That is so neat God answers our prayers like that, gives us wisdom.

Bless you Kaye… Having been a teacher, I had to laugh, but this is such a good reminder, and a delightful way to help us. What a precious way to depict this … looks like that apple needed to be pretty big to hold all the wisdom of these words! I love how adorable you are as a granny homework helper… and I love math. But you either get geometry or you don’t…’nuff said on that… it really is not easy to explain. Love how the response came to your prayer! He is so awesome and PRAYER can be powerful when we remember to use it first before we’re frustrated. May God help you and the math/science homework. God bless your patience & YOU!
(Grandkids too, but they’ll do fine now with the prayer help)

    Love and peace,
    Peggy
    Thanks for praying for Denise!

  3. Love the artwork–so precious. And how special that the Lord answered your prayer for help!!!! Thanks for the reminder too, to stop and pray FIRST! I just did that now because of your post. It’s over a situation in which I need some direction.

    Thank you.

    Blessings,
    Janis

love it Kaye! you always make me smile! 🙂 hugs!

  4. Hehehehehe, Donnie. I know JUST what you mean 🙂 But she’s doing better and I’m already praying for help for me for high school 🙂 🙂 🙂

  5. Amen, Jane. AMEN! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  6. Isn’t it cool, Alice! I had a friend who taught me to pray about everything – even lost items – many MANY years ago. Now I enjoy teaching it to my grandkids and we are always blessed by His provision. Not always instantly, but it amazes how often it is right away – and in some of the oddest ways 🙂 God is AWESOME! 🙂

  7. Thanks, Cathy. And please know I’m praying for you and hoping you are feeling MUCH better SOON 🙂

  8. Thanks for the sweet words of encouragement and inspiration, Peggy. I REALLY appreciate the prayer because geometry!!!!, NUFF said, (as you said 🙂 ). It and I do NOT get along, that’s for sure! Praise God, my grandchild can actually do better with that – must be a right / left brain thing. 🙂 🙂 🙂 Have a blessed month and thanks again for the encouragement 🙂

  9. THANKS Amy – you just put a huge smile on MY face 🙂
