There are days in the Sandwich Generation when everything is calm and peaceful and seems so easy. Then there are the days when we feel the earth shatter all around us and the hurricanes hit hard. Those are the days when the comforting Bible verses from Psalm 46:1-3 and 10-11 are a sweet reminder that no matter what is going on in our world or in our heart – God is still there with us and for us.
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.
"Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.
Of course, we in the Sandwich Generation can attest to the fact that those storms may not be raging outside, but rather inside – either in a sickroom or in our hearts as we deal with the stress of caregiving. No matter where those storms may be, we can grab hold of our Lord God, be still, and KNOW that He is God.
This lovely old Christian hymn was originally written by Alice Steele in the 1700s. It was given a delightful update by Rev. Kevin Twit. It's a peaceful way to just sit for a spell, cease striving, and rest in our precious Lord. Then we can turn back to the Sandwich Generation duties with a renewed spirit and joy in Him. Be blessed this week through sweetly comforting Bible verses and blessed praise and worship hymn songs and music.
These things are well worth remembering. Thank you for the reminder.
Blessings,
Charlotte
