Autumn has come in with a vengeance where my Sandwich Generation family lives – complete with yesterday's major rain storm, thunder and lightning non-stop for hours, and even a power outage for about an hour! During the dark moments of no electricity, my senior mom enjoyed listening to Jack Benny on her iPad as I supervised my visiting grandsons having fun playing fort with the couch while listening to music on the one iPod that still had power (yes, sadly, this tech-savvy grandma didn't have everything fully charged like I usually do – too much to do and too little sleep the night before 🙂 ). When the power came back on and the overhead lights gleamed brightly on the dark living room, I was reminded of one of my favorite Scriptures.
For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness. Psalm 18:28
Later in the day, I was talking to yet another grandson about the morning's events. His house had some power blinking but no outage. I told him about ours and that I was using this verse for Word-Filled Wednesday and asked what he thought about it. He asked, "Does the Bible really have a verse about lights?" I told him it did and showed it to him on a post of mine from last month. He thought about it for a minute and then commented, wise beyond his years, "Well, after all, the Bible has a verse about everything, doesn't it?"
Talk about a grandma's heart bursting with joy! I agreed, saying "It does about everything that matters, that's for sure!" Don't you love it when our children or grandchildren let us know they really ARE listening! That's definitely a blessing to grandparents everywhere.
I’m glad you all braved the storm with no problems, despite not being fully charged. 😀
Such a sweet comment from your grandson. A blessing indeed—and proof he’s being taught well.
Happy Wednesday!
So very thankful that He is my light.
Kaye, your story is precious. Praise God for the illustration and your grandson’s conclusion about the Bible! Amen!
Beautiful – That is so wonderful what your grandson said. You are such a blessing to them.
Thanks Cathy 🙂
Thanks, Lisa 🙂
