Did you know that today is not only Pink Saturday, but also the birthday of Levi Strauss? And that it is in large part thanks to him that we have blue jeans today? And that blue jeans come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes? Can you tell blue jeans are this Sandwich Generation baby boomer’s favorite clothes! Especially when they are Lees side elastic jeans for women! But, I’m getting ahead of myself. 🙂
As a member of the baby boomer generation I started out my early education in elementary school wearing nothing but dresses – like pretty much every girl around the country. Through the years I was rather oblivious to the rising tide of heavy rock music, drug use, the hippie movement, and various other rebellious acts going on around the country and the world. Bubble gum rock and Donovan and flowers in my hair were about as hard core as I got.
By the time I finished my basic education, graduating from high school, the world was so different. I was somewhat aware of the changes, but school, drama, and READING had kept me too busy to notice it that much. Quite frankly, the only part I got really excited about was getting to wear pants any time, and more specifically BLUE JEANS! Anywhere and everywhere. Back then, my favorite jeans were comfy, traditional, not too tight, but fitting quite nicely, thank you very much.
Nowadays the world is even more different, my body has definitely changed, but I still live in blue jeans – although they are different too! My favorite jeans are the Lee womens side elastic waist jeans. I can wear them throughout my various weights so even my big ones will still fit OK when (if) I get my weight down with the Flat Belly Diet-MUFAs – and my smaller ones have made it until just the last few weeks, which is another reason I started the diet. 🙂
The nice thing about jeans throughout the years, including the rebellious 60s, they were one of the few things all the generations mostly seemed to agree about. And that’s still true today! Nowadays – my whole Sandwich Generation family all wear jeans. I wear them the most – pretty much every day except for church. My kids and grandkids like more variety – but there are still plenty of jeans in every closet – from my senior mom on down to my newest grandbaby. And even my senior dad loved his mens elastic waist pants and jeans, as did my mom and I when we were caring for him during his end stage of Parkinsons Disease.
For those of us who need even more elastic, they make wonderful mens and womans full elastic waist jeans which are such a blessing, making it much easier to put them on and take them off ourselves, or to help the elderly parents in our family, as both men and women love them! They are especially helpful for senior parents who are stroke patients or have Parkinsons Disease, Alzheimers Disease or other dementia symptoms.
And for all of us PINK SATURDAY fans, they even make PINK blue jeans, and not just for the cute teenagers. My senior mom’s favorite clothing resource, Blair, has some delightful options from purplish pink, to pink pink, to maroon pink like these
There are also some ladies pink capri jeans at Walmart, fun for spring!
And would you believe it, here’s a Pink Saturday surprise our grandkids will smile at – they even have pink jeans for those cute Webkinz stuffed animals of theirs. 🙂
Hmmm, I wonder if my grandchild’s Webkinz Tiger would look good in those?
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to LEVI STRAUSS and a hearty thank you to him and his family for gifting us with these wonderful and comfy pants that are so intertwined in the lives of so many of us and our families in the Sandwich Generation – from grandkids to grandparents.

That was a great post.
Well now…who knew? Where have I been the last couple of years. I didn’t know they even made side waist elastic jeans! 🙂 Would you believe I only started wearing jeans a lot about 10 years ago. Never really wore them before. I was a big tennis player and lived in warm up suits most of the time. I do love my leggings jeans though….I think also known as jeggings. 🙂 Happy Pink Saturday and what a wonderful post. xo Lynn
Oh man….I just did a whole long comment and lost it somehow….phooey. I’ll just say this time that I just started really wearing jeans the last couple of years. Being a tennis player, I lived in warm up suits most of the time. I do love my jeggings….. 🙂 Happy Pink Saturday and loved this post.
I’m having some trouble with my computer. I don’t know if my last comment posted or not. I do love wearing jeans, and I do thank you for linking this to Favorite Things. laurie
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I really enjoy reading the comments of others that are about the same age and had some of the same memories. I really enjoyed your post on the jeans. I am a jeans wearing person also. You know my grandmother never had a pair of jeans or slacks. She always wore a dress. She moved to Oklahoma with her parents right after the run and even then they wore dresses. stop by again sometime.
Hi Laurie, I know that feeling so well. I’m sorry you had that here, but so glad the second took. Thanks for a fun Favorite Things link party 🙂
Oyyy Granny Ann, I remember those days well! I am SOOOOO glad they’re gone! Though my grandkids LOVE to wear dresses – but it’s nice to have the choices. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Hi Lynn, Just to let you know, you didn’t lose it. 🙂 It showed up in my “needs approval” area as an anonymous comment. So I added your name and it’s here with this one. 🙂 I have that issue with several of the WordPress blogs, so I know how frustrating it can be. I’m glad to get BOTH your sweet comments. 🙂
Lee has made side elastic jeans for a long time, but they can be really hard to find locally. Amazon has them, often with wonderful sales prices, and also, Lee’s lets you order directly from them with a huge selection and the prices aren’t bad – especially if they have a sale. I LOVE them. 🙂 They have them in shorts too 🙂 🙂 🙂
