Church was great today! I know, I say that every time. To be honest, God has so blessed me with wonderful, God-fearing pastors who are also gifted teachers. It makes going to church an extra joy. Of course, I always make sure they love God, love the Bible and teach its inerrancy, and are solid on the core doctrines of the Bible. I have to admit, I also look for ones who can tell a good joke to illustrate their sermons. I don’t know why, but a little humor acts like glue to cement the lesson into my brain. It’s a wonderful gift from God.
Our pastor reminded us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” When he said that, it reminded me of a wonderful list, “Who I am in Christ,” that I discovered a few years ago. It lists many of the blessings God has given us, when we are His children, that make up our spiritual identity in Christ Jesus. These include:
I am accepted…
I am God’s child. – John 1:12
I am secure…
I am free from condemnation. – Romans 8:1-2
I am significant…
I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit. – John 15:16
(Excerpt from “Who I Am in Christ” by Neil Anderson)
You can find the full list with 15 more gifts on it at the Freedom In Christ Ministries website. They have an artistic version , text version , or you can purchase a screensaver of it. While I was there today, I discovered that Mr. Anderson has also written a book based on each of these verses. It is definitely worth looking at and you’ll find a picture of it below this article.
As caregivers, grandparents, parents, we have so many different "identities." But this is the one that is most important to me. I highly recommend printing, reading and meditating on this list often. These are such awesome gifts to us from God to be treasured joyfully. Happy Sunday!
Hi, Thanks for visiting my blog through the Ultimate Blog Party. This is strange, but I really needed to read your post today. I needed to be reminded that I am God’s child and I am significant and loved. I have had such a crazy, hectic life lately and I’ve forgotten to pause and be thankful for blessings. Thank you for reminding me. I wish I had gone to church today.
Hi Teresa, Thank you for such encouraging words! 🙂 I enjoyed popping over to your blog to say hi there as well. Wisdom teeth weekend! I can sure understand why you didn’t get to go to church today 🙂 Hope she heals quickly 🙂
Blessings Kaye…so glad that you stopped by so that I could come read this! Glad you’re interested in my series that I’m doing weekly on Identity in Christ, it’s so I can work these truths into me and hopefully bless others. If you missed these two earlier posts, I know that you will enjoy them…they do so line us with this: CHOSEN and WHO I AM (I had them linked in my WFW)…anyways, tomorrow is my digging deeper in the verse for “I am chosen” John 15:16…this goes under I am significant as you have shared above. Those are the three main core areas and then I break it down into 6 others. Thanks for blessing me with this. Hope you’ll check out more. It does help us to soak in these scriptural truths. I have that graphic on my WHO AM I post.
Look at me…I did not even notice that this was posted way last March. I was almost going to say how wonderful it is that God placed this on both of our hearts to share!!! Bless you Kaye!
🙂 Isn’t it exciting the way God works in each of us in different ways, and at different times, towards similar goals. He is so awesome! 🙂
