It’s not swine flu, for which this Sandwich Generation granny nanny is quite grateful, but the nasty summer cold I’ve had all week has not been fun! On the other hand, it has allowed me to do plenty of quiet work that needed to get done. That’s definitely a silver lining in the cloud.  🙂

As grandparents, we love to teach our kids and grandkids things we’ve learned through the years. It’s always fun for them, and us, when they can teach us things as well. One thing I’ve learned recently from some of mine is about a handy-dandy cough medicine that can work really well for those of us in the Sandwich Generation busy dealing with the issues of caring for the elderly parents and babysitting grandchildren.

Since I never know when I’m going to have grandkids stay or when any will get sick, I’m always on the look out for products that keep well, transport easily, and work well for a wide variety of ages. Mucinex Cough for Kids, a cough remedies suppressant and expectorant, definitely satisfies all those needs. It comes in handy little individual-sized packets of semi-sweet, orange-flavored, meltable granules with directions for ages 4 years – adults, so all but two of my grandkids qualify. It’s not a terrible tasting liquid, which makes me very happy. And it’s not a pill, which makes all of my grandkids happy. And it works well for each of us! (Trust me, I’ve been giving it a good workout this week!) That makes us all happy.

Of course, you should always check with your doctor before using any medicine, including over-the-counter products like Mucinex Cough for Kids. But if your doctor gives the go ahead to use these cough remedies, I think you’ll find this quite useful, easy to take, easy to store, and generally all around handy. One very important note for the safety of our grandkids! Because the granules come in individual packets, there are no “child-proof” lids. While easier for us to open, it could be a definite safety concern. Be sure to put the box up high in a safe place to protect them. This is important for grandkids of any age.

I hope none of you have to deal with any summer colds and coughs. The Sandwich Generation issues of caring for the elderly parents and babysitting grandchildren definitely keeps us busy enough! But if you do, and you try this, let us know what you think of it.  🙂
