Love is Kind – Songs, Stories and Activities For You and Your Grandchildren

How has your week been? Had much of a chance to work on our  Love is Patient… series with your grandkids? Mine’s been pretty crazy. Lots of company and visiting and fun, but very very busy. And hard to get much time with my grandkids and our Bible Memory Verses project. That’s OK though. I’ve got plenty of ideas for when the time is right, and we have managed to squish a couple of fun things in. Plus I was able to encourage one of my long distance grandchildren with these verses this week too. Sharing praise and worship songs and uplifting Bible verses together are definitely some of my favorite ideas for grandparents to stay in touch and close to grandchildren when living far away! 

This week we added Love is Kind to Love is Patient, since that’s a pretty common combination. I like that we’re giving it extra time because practicing patience and kindness goes a long way towards defeating sibling rivalry. 🙂 And I’m reminding myself (and you 🙂 ) that this is for fun for us and them. If we never make it all the way through, there’s always next summer. But in the meantime, anything we do is a blessing to them and to us!

While looking for a song for Love is kind or kindness in general, I found some cute kids praise and worship music all centered around Bible verses from Twin Sisters. They had the song, Love is Patient, Love is Kind, and several other encouraging Bible verses songs on their More Scripture Songs Album, which is available as a CD or an mp3 download. I ordered the one song as an mp3 and am looking forward to sharing it with each of my grandkids over the next couple of weeks. It’ll be a sweet way to help cement these two parts of 1 Corinthians 13: 4 into their precious hearts and minds. I’m planning on watching a cute video with them that, among other things, illustrates kindness. Max Lucado’s, “Hermie and Friends: Stanley the Stinkbug Goes to Camp,” is about Stanley who, being quite smelly, tends to be rather unwanted at times. But the whole gang learns that they need to be kind to him AND they reap blessings as a result, thanks to him saving the day at the end, not to mention the football game. 🙂 It’s one of my grandboys favorites!

For the Bible story, there are plenty to pick from but I especially like the story of Joseph and his brothers. There are such great examples there of kindness AND unkindness. But in the end, when Joseph forgives his brothers for their extreme unkindness, what a great example that is of Love that NEVER fails. Of course, the brothers’ love definitely failed but God’s love, which Joseph so richly pictures, never does!

I plan on using the boys’ Adventure Bible to read through the different parts of the story, while talking about how love, patience and kindness are shown, or not shown, in each part of the story. In addition, I found several good resources for all of us with the stories of Joseph along with projects, crafts, and games.
