Today is the first day of Lent 2012 – what many refer to as Ash Wednesday. For some, Lent is a time of of preparing for Easter with giving up something. For me, Lent is a time to prepare for Easter with the joy of knowing how the story turns out. My grandkids and I love to re-tell the story over and over using the Easter Resurrection eggs. I start singing Easter praise and worship music, along with some favorite old Christian Lent hymns from when I was a child. And I love to focus a bit on the season here at SandwichINK with encouraging Bible verses, uplifting music, and fun and easy crafts and activities ideas for the whole Sandwich Generation family – from the young grandkids on up to our sweet seniors, starting with this for Word-Filled Wednesday (where we're meeting at Facebook today 🙂 )…
This year, as my grandkids and I spend time each week thinking about and talking about Easter and all that it means to us, I have decided to help them, and us, focus on two ugly things about that dark day on Calvary – that because of the power of God are actually so beautiful to us. One is the CROSS! As Paul puts it in 1 Corinthians 1:18,
The word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Such an important lesson for us boomers and seniors to remember as each day brings us closer to being with our Savior. And such a vital truth to teach our grandkids! It's definitely one of those sweet ways of leaving a spiritual legacy for our whole Sandwich Generation family, that will be full of power for them for an eternity.
P.S. This week, I'm also linking up with Women Living Well, Good Morning Girls, and Deep Roots at Home – all are full of Christian encouragement for all of us in the Sandwich Generation, along with plenty of fun tips and ideas for encouraging our grandkids as well.
Kaye, Thank you so much for letting me know that one of my links was not working on my blog! I appreciate that!
Your website looks very interesting and I will take the the time to peruse it…as I am finding myself almost in this stage of life myself.

Beautiful post. The power of the cross, and the message of the cross have the same meaning for those who believe in Jesus, the precious Son of God.
Wonde filled post.
