It's the final week of Lent for 2012. My grandkids and I have been so blessed by working through these wonderfully encouraging Bible memory verses over the past several weeks, all dealing with the cross of Christ and our redemption by the precious blood of our Savior. It's definitely led to a TON of new questions from them – probably a dual result of their getting older and this specific of a topic. It's definitely been an interesting and challenging month for this Sandwich Generation granny nanny.
You were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 1 Peter 1:18-19
These verses from 1 Peter will go great with our last story of Moses and Pharoah and the first Passover. One recurrent theme in their questions that they keep going back to deals with heaven, and what it is like. Which is logical. We've been talking a lot about Christ's death and resurrection and ascension to heaven so it makes sense they are thinking of that.
I decided to get Randy Alcorn's two books for kids on the topic of Heaven, Heaven for Kids and Tell Me About Heaven, and use them as a basis for our Summer Scripture project this year. I don't know if the special deal is still available, but for several days the Kindle version of Heaven for Kids has been available at no charge to download to your Kindle or Kindle app. I'd definitely suggest you run right over to Amazon and see if it's still available for free, even if you aren't going to use it right this minute. I suspect it will be quite handy for many of our grandkids' questions. 🙂
With all the weird weather and disconcerting news in the press right now, isn't it a double joy to share the GOOD NEWS of the gospel with our children and grandchildren? It encourages me right along with them. And speaking of being encouraged, you'll find plenty more Scriptures to encourage all of us in the Sandwich Generation at Internet Cafe Devotions for this lovely Word-Filled Wednesday, as well as Teaching What Is Good, Women Loving Well, and Good Morning Girls– all full of Christian encouragement, along with many fun ideas for leaving a sweet spiritual legacy in the hearts and minds of our grandchildren.
P.S. Are you on Facebook? Be sure to follow me there, as I do post extra goodies for all of us in the Sandwich Generation, such as useful Kindle and mp3 downloads that are free for a short time (in fact, I just posted one of the new and FREE Christian Kindle mystery books there.) I'd love for you to friend me at Facebook AND like my Facebook page (by clicking LIKE at the top of that page) since I post different things to each – depending on what they are about. See you there – AND here! 🙂
Be blessed.
