As a site that focuses on the Sandwich Generation issues of caring for elderly parents while helping with your grandchildren, I'm always on the lookout for words of encouragement and inspiration as well as resources for a wide range of ages. I especially love items that all ages can enjoy together. Many Sundays ago, I was visiting various sites for Spiritual Sunday and, at Cathy's blog, Melodies and Hymn Songs, I enjoyed a video that really touched my heart. With an adorable little one, Steffanie Cabral, singing the song, The Joy of the Lord is My Strength, that I remember fondly from when my children were in Vacation Bible School and Bill Gaither and the Gaithers Homecoming friends of all ages backing her up, I realized this would be a blessing for all of you as well!
Wasn't that sweet? And what a great video to show our grandchildren! One of my favorite of the activities for grandparents and their grandchildren that my grandkids and I do together is to talk to them about things that will help them grow strong in the Lord and develop Godly characters. This will be an excellent example for them of exercising JOY in the midst of TRIALS, particularly good since we still love to practice the Bible memory verses from Galatians 5 that I did for your children and mine – all about the fruit of the Spirit, including the fruit of joy. And in case you are wondering if that actually stuck? I asked my youngest grandson yesterday, "what is the Fruit of the Spirit?"
He immediately and cheerfully hollered it out for me nice and loud, "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23a," I love that he still knows it, and knows it well. It definitely put a HUGE smile on my face! What a fun way of leaving a sweet spiritual legacy in their hearts and minds.
I hope and pray this inspirational Bible verse and video from Bill Gaither and the Gaithers Homecoming Friends will be a blessing to you and your Sandwich Generation family as well, from the senior parents, on down to the youngest grandchild. And don't forget, for more encouraging Bible verses, devotions, and praise and worship songs and hymns, do pop over to Spiritual Sunday. You'll be blessed! 🙂
