This Sandwich Generation granny nanny and grandchildren are grateful to God for America and the freedom of religion we enjoySpeaking of celebrating America's Independence Day with song, clip art, pictures, and books, I just had such a nice time with one of my grandsons, as we read The Story of America's Birthday by Patricia A. Pingry, which is apparently no longer easily available though you might be able to find it used.

It's a short board book that gives a VERY brief overview of why we celebrate America's birthday. I love her holiday and history books, but wish she'd go into a bit more detail with some of them, including this one. That being said, it was certainly easy for me to add in a couple of pertinent facts like religious freedom, and how America and England have since "made up" and become great friends – a true joy for both our nations. 🙂

For the 4th of July this Sandwich Generation family enjoys patriotic books music clip art and pictures

How about you and your grandchildren? What are your favorite books and music for the 4th of July – or for the Independence Day celebrations in your country? We'd love to hear. 🙂
