Daily Living Made Easier

It’s Valentine’s Day and I thought it would be a fun time to tell you about something special going on. February 15-21, 2010, is designated Random Acts of Kindness Week. Seniors for Living has made it even more specific, using it to remind us to put into practice Random Acts of Kindness for one or more of the Senior Citizens in our lives.

Random Acts of Kindness for elderly parents and neighbors

For those of us in the Sandwich Generation, we may be in the process of doing that on a daily basis. 🙂 Then again, sometimes our relationships with our elderly parents can become so “daily,” so routine, we may forget to do the once-in-a-while fun and special things that make an aging parent’s day a bit brighter. Like giving them flowers for no reason, bringing home their favorite candy bar from the grocery store, or taking them out and about – just for fun. It’s a great way to put into practice, “Love is patient, love is kind.” from 1 Corinthians 13. Not only that, it’s a wonderful way to set a positive example for our grandkids, as they watch us and often help us practice fun Random Acts of Kindness.

One of my favorite Random and Not-So-Random Acts is to send books to encourage the special people in my life who can’t get out and about as much as they would like. Since they can’t easily get to the world, it’s fun to “bring a bit of the world” to them  with fun Christian spy novels or the Left Behind books series I love!  🙂

I also love to share encouraging music with others – by sending praise and worship songs as well as the lovely old time christian hymns via mp3 downloads or CDs.

And don’t forget the joy of sending out a cute Smilebox “virtual” scrapbook album or ecard. (If you haven’t had a chance to send a Valentine to everyone on your list, Smilebox is a great help there too! Did you know you can quickly and easily  As soon as you send it, they should get it! It makes a delightful “Random Act of Kindness” for busy Sandwich Generation senior home care givers and grandparents!  And it’s a gift that is a blessing to all our special seniors, including those with dementia symptoms. 🙂 )

To celebrate Valentine’s Day AND Random Acts of Kindness week, I have a special “Random Act of Kindness” for all of you. A Happy Valentine’s Day  song,  “Here Is Love,” by Matt Redman.

If you’d like to join all of us for this fun Random Acts of Kindness adventure, we’d love to hear about it, and so would Seniors for Living. They’re going to be posting their favorite comments and stories at Facebook and even giving away a $50 Amazon gift certificate to all their Facebook Fans who participate. Should be a fun week – for all of us, including all those special Senior Citizens we’ll be showering with loving kindness. 🙂

Once again, Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you from SandwichINK. Each of you who are caring for the elderly relatives in your family are truly a blessing and I pray you will be blessed as well!
