We are continuing with our Sunday “Comforting Bible Verses” series to encourage all of us in the Sandwich Generation who are caring for elderly parents and grandkids and juggling all the issues that come with that. This week I was praying about what verse to write about and the Lord reminded me of Psalm 18:1-3 (NASB):
“I love You, O LORD, my strength.” The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies
I also love the Message’s rendition of 1-2a
I love you, God – you make me strong. God is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight.
Isn’t that a great picture for ourselves, as well as an excellent one to share with our grandchildren? Perfect for after a bad dream. And, truth be told, many of our grandkids need comforting for more than bad dreams. We have friends whose grandchildren are struggling with difficult diseases, including cancer! Others who have lost a mom, a dad, or both parents. It’s not just us oldsters with woes, sad to say. We live in a fallen world, full of sin, sorrow, and sadness. It’s never too young to purpose-fully work to help prepare our grandchildren to deal with problems now or in the future by hiding the Word of God in their heart to comfort them when they need it!
I have to tell you, I really had a delightful time selecting the praise and worship music for these verses. Too good, actually. I was totally tempted to share about four songs, but finally settled on two. One for the grandkids in particular, and one for all of us with a different “flavor” than my norm. I love praise and worship hymn songs and music of all types and flavors – from the traditional older hymns, to the contemporary beat of today’s praise and worship music. I’m not a huge fan of an extreme rock sound, though I have family members who love it. But I do enjoy some nice soft jazz and there was a lovely song with that style that I thought you might enjoy as well.
Soooo, for the grandkids, I present My Rock from the album, 12 Super Sonic Psalm Songs (I loved their little “warning – these songs are not played on a harp!” They definitely have a great beat and I know my grandkids will love them! How about yours?)
And for all of us grandparents, Psalms 18, featuring Fretrice Ewell, Glenn McKinney, Ken Crouch, Kelvin Gomillion from the album, Psalms, by Greg McKinneys

What did you think? I will definitely be playing both of these praise and worship hymn songs next time I am needing to be surrounded by some strong comforting and uplifting music and Scriptures! Very encouraging, indeed! I pray these comforting Bible verses and music will be a blessing to you and your family, as well, when you are going through difficult situations!

I don’t have any songs to add but your words stung because I do need to mention our Lord and Savior to my grandchildren more. Thankfully my son and daughter in love are Christians and teach their children well but I sure wouldn’t want to be young today. No way….
Enjoyed your post. You are so right that we need to help our children learn God’s word.
Thanks for visiting my blog today. Hope you have a great week!
Also, I wanted to share “Seeds Family Worship” are great songs of verses put to song. They have a sample on their site.
Hi Donnie, I am blessed with Christian kids and grandkids as well – but I love the double impact they get from multi-generational Bible teaching and examples – it’s such an awesome spiritual legacy to leave, isn’t it 🙂
Hi BP, Thanks for stopping by and for the great tip. I popped over to Seeds Family Worship and really liked what I heard and saw 🙂 . Very cool 🙂 🙂 🙂
This is truly a great verse, and one that I needed to read, thank-you.
Blessings,
Ginger

Hi Loveleng – It’s an awesome joy, isn’t it 🙂
Learning God’s word is important.
Thanks for you comment on my blog. I enjoy making Smileboxes. It’s so cool how many media tools are out there.
Have a great day!
It is so important for children to have a firm foundation on God’s word. Music speaks to them probably like nothing else. I just read the comment from Penny saying you had won the mosaic cross. That is wonderful.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us each week.
Blessings,
Charlotte
Hi Charlotte, Thanks! I’m quite excited. She does wonderful work. I’m trying to decide between two delightful patterns! 🙂
