A few years ago my senior mom and I moved into a cute 75 year old house, which needed some major upgrades. One important change was a new electric range. We had a great time shopping around, while comparing and contrasting various models – especially our two favorites, Kenmore and Whirlpool. Being a Sandwich Generation family with an older mom and very young grandkids I made sure to add some extra "bells and whistles" to this new stove.
Of course, self-cleaning was a definite priority as stove cleaning is NOT one of my favorite things to do. But I considered the smooth cooktop to be an important safety issue for our multigenerational family as well. No open flames or hot burners for little hands – or shaky elderly hands – to grab.
And I really appreciated the red lights that indicated the top of the stove was hot. That can be so important when grandkids are around. It's also a big help for those caring for elderly parents with major memory issues. My senior mom is fine now, as am I, but it never hurts to be prepared so we both added that to the top of our list.
We finally settled on the Kenmore electric range as we felt it was the best of the smooth glass top electric ranges, followed very closely by the Whirlpool, and we loved it! It was a great stove for us – very reliable, practical and overall, perfect for our Sandwich Generation family. One caveat, though. No matter how hard you work at prevention, nothing is perfect. So be careful you don't leave any of those cute pink potholders on the top of the cookstove. As we learned to our dismay, they will melt!
You nailed it. Thank a lot for posting this. I’ll return to this site to see what’s new and recommend my neighbors about this website.
