Oh gracious. My granddog and I had the most delightful walk this week. The Sandwich Generation issues of my life had taken a bit of a break, and we just had a really nice, relaxed little stroll. Roses seemed to be everywhere! It's been hot and the weather's been weird, so not all were in the most perfect of shape. But you know what, they were still lovely and most smelled quite delightful! I definitely enjoyed a time to "stop and smell the roses!"
Look at this lovely pink one. Isn't it perfect for Pink Saturday? So pretty and cheery. It just made my little old heart go pitter pat!
I think these white flowers are Iceberg Roses. We used to have a huge bush of them. No matter how much I pruned them, within a few weeks, they be back – bigger and better than ever with such a delicate and sweet scent. When I looked at these, I thought of all of us caregivers. Some days, we may feel a bit raggedy like these roses. But give us some time, a bit of a rest, and maybe a Pepsi 🙂 …
And just as this rose will be bursting out with a lovely new flower soon, we'll have a burst of new energy to keep us going.
It's so important for all of us in the Sandwich Generation, no matter how overwhelming the issues of our life may seem, to remember to "take care of the caregiver." Pull out one of those comforting Bible verses you love, listen to some favorite music, hug your senior parent and your grandchildren….and don't let yourself feel guilty at taking a bit of time for yourself. Caregiving is not easy. But if we take care of ourselves, as well as our carees, we can keep going. So today, do your family and yourself a sweet favor and stop and smell the roses. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous! Happy pink Saturday.
Come and see my PINK entry, when you get a chance, thanks!
