Do you love to laugh? I know I do. It’s good for us too! One of my favorite encouraging Bible verses is Proverbs 17:22, A joyful heart is good medicine. That’s from the New American Standard Bible. The King James Version calls it “a merry heart.” Either way, it puts a smile on my face. Research has proven this true – that laughter is literally good for our bodies and our minds.  I think of these words of encouragement every year on this day, April 1. Or as many like to call it, April Fools Day. 🙂 I enjoy simple April Fools Day tricks that don’t require lying or any type of meanness and I set out on a mega surf of the web just for that type of fun April Fools Day activities for grandparents and their grandchildren to enjoy. Here’s what I came up with:

My favorite this year and last year are the fun April Fools Day Food tricks from Family Fun. From the looks of it, they’ve added some recipes since last year! Very cool and very fun!

Funny books and books with a cute twist are perfect for April Fools Day to have a laughing good time. Amelia Bedelia books, such as Amelia Bedelia Celebration: Four Stories Tall, are always fun for the grandchildren as well as for you to enjoy reading. The Monster at the End of this Book is a great read with a funny twist that’s perfect for April Fools Day. Knock-Knock Jokes for Grand Kids are always fun and funny with their little twists. There’s even a handful of April Fools books such as:

• April Foolishness – a funny rhyming book about a farmer and his grandchildren
• April Fool’s Day – tells a bit of the history of April Fools Day in an easy reader format
• April Fool’s Day (Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew) – (the newer younger Nancy Drew series)

I haven’t read any of these, yet, but I’m definitely adding them to my list to check out! They do look good for fun reading activities for grandparents and grandchildren, don’t they? 🙂

Here’s a fun April Fool’s news article that will get a good laugh from you and your grandchildren and help them learn a bit more about the internet.

For some fun activities for grandparents and older grandchildren, here are some word search puzzles that can NOT be solved along with a really cute two sided sheet – with the normal word search on one side and the other side having the same puzzle all mixed up. You show your grandchild the normal side, then “accidentally” drop it. When they pick it up, it looks like the letters all moved on the page. I’m going to give that a try with my grandchildren. 🙂
