Sweet Scripture Encouragement
God’s Word is such an encouragement for all of us who are Christians in the Sandwich Generation, isn’t it? I can’t tell you the number of times life has felt like it was crashing down. Then I’d stop and spend time reading or listening to God’s Word and He would encourage me and lift my spirits through it. Sometimes through old, familiar passages like Psalm 23. Other times through Scriptures that had nothing to do with what I was dealing with, yet spoke to my heart in such a special way.
Isaiah 46:9-10 For Christians in the Sandwich Generation
Here’s an example. I was very blessed by this awesome Scripture passage twice last week for two different reasons. Initially I enjoyed reading it while doing my daily Bible study and realizing it was talking about prophecy, God’s Word, and God accomplishing all that He has promised. I love this passage for that!
Remember the former things long past,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’
In fact, I it was especially meaningful as Bible prophecy and current events are things I’ve been studying a lot lately! I’ve been thoroughly enjoying some really excellent prophecy teaching and updates from various pastors that I know and trust including Joe Focht, Jack Hibbs, David Guzik, Barry Stagner, and many others.
As I may have mentioned before, I subscribe to what used to be called YouTube Red (I think it is now called YouTube Premium.). This allows me to listen to YouTube with none of their commercials – which can be pretty dreadful. That makes it great for me AND for sharing terrific videos safely with my grandkids! I also have the ability to close the YouTube window on my smart phone, stick my iPhone in my pocket and listen while I am walking, doing chores, and other things. It’s a great way to be blessed with sweet encouragement in the random bits of time I have in the midst of the sandwich generation days.
It’s been fascinating to watch what is going on over in the Middle East and comparing various changes to what the Bible tells us will come in these last days! It also helps me pray for the US, Israel, and our world – which is so vital today! (Don’t forget that May 2 is the National Day of Prayer! It’s good to mark that on our calendars and be praying for our world, as well as for our kids and grandkids – and in fact, encourage them to pray as well!)
Another Great Reason
I had already decided to share this Scripture passage this week because of all that is going on in the world in general. But this morning, I was feeling rather stressed for various loved ones. As I was praying, though, for my family‘s needs, health issues for my beloveds, and various other different sandwich generation issues that I’m juggling right now, God brought these words to my mind again.
He used them to remind me that I am not God! I can do a lot to help my loved ones but I can NOT wave a magic wand and make everything better. I think a lot of us who are caregivers are prone to try and do that – whether for kids in trouble, grandkids in need, elderly parents’ pains, etc. We want to be there to help them. And while often we can there are also many times we cannot, leaving us feeling so helpless!
I was having one of those moments while I was praying and then these words from Isaiah came to mind and gave me such a strong sense of peace! I was reminded that NO! I am NOT God! GOD is God and there is no other! HE is God and there is none like Him and HIS purpose WILL BE established and He WILL accomplish ALL His good pleasure! Wonderfully, that includes taking good care of us including answering our prayers. As I later explained to one of my grandkids, those answers may be Yes, Maybe, or No. And ALL of those answers have proven to be a blessing to us throughout my life. I was again reminded of some of my favorite verses:
We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
There have been times in my life and will be more when it sometimes feels like the walls are closing in, the room is getting smaller and smaller, and that’s when I turn to God even more – in prayer, in Bible reading, in trusting Him! He has never let me down and He never will! Sweet joys, indeed!
God Will Provide
Whatever way that God provides in our lives, HE WILL PROVIDE! HE IS THERE FOR US! Therefore, we can join the Psalmist in saying:
In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid!
(As you might guess – this is one of many excellent Bible verses to help our grandkids memorize, as one of my grand-littles and I will be doing this week. 🙂 In fact, here’s a matching coloring page of it. )
I pray you are going through a sweet season of peace and quiet but if instead you are going through some of the tougher Sandwich Generation issues, I encourage you to cling hard to Him! Know that He is there for you personally. That you can, indeed, put your trust in Him and not fear!
HE DOES KEEP HIS PROMISES!And yes! He can use EVERYTHING in our lives – even the more trying of the Sandwich Generation issues – be they health, grandkid concerns, dealing elderly parent dementia woes, or other issues.
What a blessing to all and especially those of us who are Christians in the Sandwich Generation, walking hand in hand with God in the midst of a myriad of Sandwich Generation issues. Truly, as Phil Wickham states in this lovely new hymn, Jesus Christ is, indeed, our living hope – here on earth and home in heaven!
