The Sandwich Generation Issues of Hospitalizations
Being in the Sandwich Generation often means helping senior (and sometimes junior) relatives deal with surgery and recovery issues. While that can be difficult for both the patient and the caregiver, good things can come from it as well. Sweet family memories, lots of hugs, and sometimes you might even find some great solutions to your own problems.
Elastic Shoe Laces for This Sandwich Generation Granny Nanny! Happy Dance Time!
This Sandwich Generation granny nanny is in shoe string heaven today, thanks to my senior relative’s surgery and recovery. After one of her get-togethers with the occupational therapist, she came back to the hospital room quite proud that she was back in her tennis shoes. Showing them off, she pointed out her cool new white elastic shoe laces! They allowed her to slip her shoes off and on without having to tie and retye them.
I’ve used curly elastic shoe laces off and on for years, like these cute pink curly laces my youngest grandson is liking. (Perfect for Pink Saturday. 🙂 ) I used to love them, but lately they seem to be getting a bit shorter or my tennis shoes are getting a bit bulkier. That means they are a bit tighter and ended up hurting my feet. So I have been back to using regular shoe laces, but often leave them untied on the days the arthritis in my feet is really bothering me. Unlike those curly shoe laces, these elastic shoe laces lay flat, and aren’t as tight on the top of her feet! An ultra simple idea that is making me VERY happy!
Love Great Options in Elastic Shoe Laces for the Sandwich Generation
When I started checking around, I discovered that Walgreens carries these super shoe laces online, but not in my local store. Amazon also carries a few varieties, including the 30 inch white elastic shoe laces that are like my sweet senior’s as well as 37 inch shoelaces in a variety of colors. Since she wears similar sport tennis shoes like mine, and they are fitting her wellI decided to try those. I ordered them and will look forward to “test driving” them and reporting back on them in a couple of weeks. My beloved senior has been enjoying hers for three days now and is very happy with them. The big test will be whether the quality of the ones I’ve ordered are the same AND how my arthritis does with them. (Oooops – find out what happened by clicking here.)
If you need longer elastic shoe laces, ShoeLaces Express has them in a variety of colors – Black, Brown, White, Beige, Gray – all the way up to 63 inches.
Elastic Shoe Laces Can Be A Great Idea for the Whole Sandwich Generation Family
Another idea – I’ve read you can actually accomplish the same thing by buying plain elastic at a fabric store or supplies and crafts store and tying your shoes with those. And by the by, I’m thinking these elastic shoe laces might also work well for those grandkids who can’t yet tie their shoe laces! Talk about a great idea for the whole Sandwich Generation family! What do you think? 🙂
