Daily Living Made Easier

Have you ever noticed that, when you are going through a major trial, it always seems to get worse in the middle of the night. I can’t tell you the number of times over the decades I find myself waking up in the middle of the night and my mind just starts racing! Being in the Sandwich Generation, there’s never a shortage of issues and concerns! And, of course, the thoughts are rarely about the positive things in the trial. It’s always the darkest and gloomiest things that you remember as you lay there trembling, fretting, and worrying! ย That’s why Psalm 18:28b is on my list of comforting Bible verses. My way of “caring for the caregiver.” ๐Ÿ™‚ย

The Lord my God illumines my darkness.ย

That’s one of those uplifting Bible verses that are like a big HUG, isn’t it? I’ve learned what things to do in the middle of the night when I lay there for more than a couple of minutes. I need to turn on a quiet sermon or some peaceful praise and worship hymn songs and music to take the focus of my mind OFF my fears and put it ON to God. Sometimes, I even get up to read and study the encouraging Word of God. God uses all of these to brighten my heart, relax my mind, and light up my darkness.

I love Bebo Norman‘s lovely praise and worship hymn songs and music and was delighted to find he recorded the encouraging song, Great Light of the World, which is on his album, Great Light of the World: The Best of Bebo Norman. Just click PLAY on the Smilebox eCard and enjoy this lovely song along with a foretaste of my favorite season, AUTUMN.

Wasn’t that lovely? I was interested to note this song is also on his album, Christmas… From the Realm of Glory, even though it is not a tradtional “Christmas song.” So now I am blessed by the words and music AND the thought of Christmas songs plus the lovely Smilebox eCard with gorgeous autumn trees, and colorful leaves falling, have led toย tantalizing thoughts of Autumn followed closely by Christmas praise and worship songs. Now that’s the kind of Sunday this baby boomer LOVES! ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I know! I am really “hooked” on autumn! ย I am SOOO looking forward to Autumn joys such as autumn decorations and centerpieces, flowers and wreaths, lovely fall foliage, art activities for grandparents and their grandchildren and so much more! (I just bought a BUNCH of supplies at Michael’s yesterday and I’m really looking forward to sharing different projects with you in the next few ย months). But, I digress (pleasant, though it might be).

I pray that this weekly series of comforting and uplifting Bible verses will be a blessing and an encouragement to youย – a way of “caring for the caregiver” and that your darkness will be brightly lit by God’s Word and by “soaking” your heart in the various praise and worship hymn songs and music you’ll find on each post. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Happy Spiritual Sunday Kaye! Lovely post and so happy to be sharing in this wonderful Miracle Makeover weekend party. There are so many wonderful ideas in Collettes recover/peaceful bedroom that we can incorporate for our elderly parents and family members. We are trying so hard to help my mom downsize and purge…but that is like an episode of “Hoarding”…oh my! And me be and organized person…I have to give it up to God alot because I don’t want my frustrations to become a thorn between my mom and I. My dad passed 6 years ago and my DH and I have since downsized ourselves so that we are in a position to enjoy our grandbabies…as soon as they come ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you have a wonderful week, fondly, Roberta

    Such a lovely, comforting post!

  3. Hi Whidbey Woman, Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Praying for you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Hi Roberta, I know what you mean! I have had some dear senior relatives, who are in heaven now, that had such a hard time with that. Two were my grandparents, and after dealing with all that, my parents decided to downsize to help me ahead of time and my senior mom still works on it. I tend to be a mix of both, so my kids will have it easier than my parents, but probably not as easy as me. ๐Ÿ™‚ As i just wrote about at SandwichINK Real Estate Info, When Senior Parents Are Downsizing, Make Sure They Keep Fun and Small Sandwich Generation Family Memories, small is GOOD! ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a terrific day and thanks so much for stopping by!

It’s amazing what our minds think of while we are minds are still. I hope you sleep better tonight.
    Blessings,

  7. Hi Ginger, I’m not kidding. Since I started listening to sermons in the middle of the night, I rarely have any problems. ๐Ÿ™‚ God is AWESOME!

    Hi Kaye!

Thanks so much for stopping by the prayer list. You mentioned you were praying for Mollie. Is this someone you’d like to add to the list? I’d love to have her on there. Do you have a post we can link to that lets us know what to pray for in her behalf?

I also wanted to mention that in my own struggles dealing with bipolar disorder, my mind is frequently racing, especially at night. So I can relate there. I have found that uplifting music, scripture, talks, and audio books on my IPOD have helped. I have to add, though… It HAS to be something I’ve already read or am very familiar with so I’m not staying awake just to hear what’s NEXT!! LOL!! Yes, Heaven opens windows where doors are closed, He gives us challenges to make us stronger, He sends us angels who live among us and answer our prayers through His inspiration. ;D

  9. Hi Holly, Thanks for writing and for following up. I meant to write Dottie. Molly is part of her website’s name and I accidentally switched them around. But God knew! Coz now I’ll pray more ๐Ÿ˜‰ And thanks for sharing about sleepless nights. Very good points. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a blessed week. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I find that many times when I wake up in the middle of the night I have great ideas about something I’m going to do. Unfortunately many times when I wake up again in the morning the thoughts are gone or don’t seem nearly as good as they did earlier.
Love the picture of the Thomas Kinkade wall hanging. I have one of his throws. He’s my favorite painter.
Thank you for sharing with us again on Spiritual Sundays.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  11. Hi Charlotte I know that feeling so well. I’ve learned to try to force myself to get up and scribble the idea down before I go back to sleep, though many times I don’t. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for another delightful Spiritual Sunday ๐Ÿ™‚
