Don't you love the old familiar carols along with the newer Christmas praise and worship music? Me too! How about the updated versions of the older carols? There are so many of those that are a delight as well, aren't there? Today I was especially blessed by two different versions of Angels We Have Heard on High, including a lovely one by Point of Grace.

I enjoyed both of these from a purely "I love Christmas carols" viewpoint. But, as I listened and sang along with the joy-full music, I realized this was also sweetly comforting music, something very necessary for this Sandwich Generation granny nanny, busy dealing with the myriad of issues the come from caring for elderly parents, helping with grandchildren, and juggling all the other needs in the family.

I love it when God reminds us that He has given us mighty angels to watch over us! Check out these encouraging and comforting Bible verses:

For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11-12

…these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 18:10

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them Psalm 34:6-7

I'll tell you, my angels have been working overtime this month! Last week, two different drivers on two different days, made very unsafe moves and came mighty close to crashing into us! This week, I was out throwing rock salt on my iced over driveway, slipped, and fell down hard. Through it all, God was definitely making good use of my angels to ensure our safety as the only injury was to my pride as I carefully picked myself up from the ice covered concrete! 🙂

Yes, we will definitely have trials, tribulations, and tumbles! But we also have the promises of God in the Bible telling us of His protection, His angelic help, and that we can "know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Now those are definitely worth singing about!

On this fourth Sunday in Advent, I pray that God would encourage each of us through joy-filled praise and worship Christmas music and comforting and uplifting Bible verses. Advent blessings to each of you in the Sandwich Generation, busily caring for elderly parents and caring for children and/or grandchildren! 🙂

    Hi Kaye,

This is my first visit to SandwichINK, the name alone gives me a reason to search your blog and discover the history behind the name.

I’m glad you didn’t suffer any injury from falling. It happened to me last winter and I eventually needed shoulder surgery. trials, tribulations, and tumbles…the three T’s, but God delivers us from them all.

I find this time of year quite encouraging; having a joy that I love sharing with those around me. How can anyone experience the reality of the birth of Christ and not have joy? It’s a great time to be alive and appreciative of the love, grace and blessings of God.

Thank you for sharing a Christmas song that inspires.

    Blessings and peace.

That was such a sweet post. Hope you all have blessed Christmas.

  1. Glad those angels were watching over you! It’s amazing how close we come to death so many times were it not for the grace of God.

I love both the old and new versions of Christmas songs, too. Every generation must praise him in the ways that fit. Thanks for sharing.
