Encouraging Bible verses to remind the Sandwich Generation that we need t rest in the Lord even in the midst of traumatic issuesHave you ever noticed that sometimes God will keep reinforcing one or more specific Bible verses to you from a variety of different sources? I've had that happen several times with two passages over the last few weeks. Both are full of such sweet words of comfort and encouragement. The first, Psalm 46:10, keeps reminding me to stop striving and rest in Him. Be still and KNOW that He is God.

I was reminded of that one as I drove home today and heard the lovely song, Be Still, by StorySide B, based on these sweet words of encouragement.

The second is Habakkuk 3:17-19. Here it is in a few different versions – each more comforting than the last!

Even tho the fig trees are all destroyed and there is neither blossom left nor fruit; tho the olive crops all fail, and the fields lie barren; even if the flocks die in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord:  I will be happy in the God of my salvation.  The Lord God is my strength; He will give me the speed of a deer and bring me safely over the mountains. (TLB)

Counting on God’s Rule to prevail, I take heart and gain strength. (Message)

I will be joyful in God my Savior.   The Sovereign Lord is my strength.  He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to go on to the heights.  NIV

Yet I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation…He has made my feet like hinds’feet, and makes me walk on my high places.  NASB

Both of these passages seem especially appropriate this week as we've been listening to and praying about all that is going on in Colorado with the firestorm, all that is going on around our whole country with the weird and very hot weather, and all that is going on around our world with the various financial woes making constant and frightening headlines.

All these concerns for ourselves are rather daunting. But when you factor in the fact that, as members of the Sandwich Generation, we are also responsible for overseeing the care of our aging parents, not to mention raising our own children or babysitting (and often incurring extra costs as a result) our grandchildren, it can be quite disconcerting.

That makes me doubly grateful that God keeps whispering in my ear, "Don't worry. I AM IN CONTROL." I am clinging to that knowledge and these comforting Bible verses. How about you?

Spiritual Sundays are full of devotionals with encouraging Bible verses to bless the Sandwich Generation boomers and seniors busy caring for the elderly parents while babysitting grandchildren

P.S. For all of us boomers and seniors who enjoyed Air Supply back around the 80s, did you notice the hint of their music in the song by Side Story B. 🙂

  1. I liked seeing so many translations of the second verse. God IS in control and so often we forget that with all that is going on in our fallen world. It is a great comfort to know that we can stay calm and be still…in the midst of it all. I like to say, “even on my worst day, I am so richly blessed!”

  2. Yes, I cling to the knowledge of His faithfulness. The video is beautiful.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  3. Amen, Charlotte, and thank you 🙂

  4. Amen, Renee, AMEN! 🙂
