Daily Living Made Easier

Is it just me or does the weather seem WEIRD ALL OVER? Checking with friends and relatives for my Sandwich Generation family, I’ve discovered that Roseville, California and other parts of California is going between massive snow and rainy downpours – including landslides! Alaska has -30 and counting. The mid-country where I live just finished one ice storm with temps about 20 degrees cooler than normal and more snow is on the way! WOW! And as much as the weather impacts people normally, don’t you find that those of us in the Sandwich Generation have a bit extra we find we are dealing with since we also have the issues of caring for the elderly parents in the family along with raising kids or helping with grandkids or both?

The day I slipped and fell in the ice it was when I was headed out to pick up grandkids. I am constantly having to be sure my senior mom is being careful about the icy front porch as she watches for the mail or checks on the newspaper. And that doesn’t even count any out-of-town guests, a popular thing during the holidays! 🙂

It does lead to some lovely photos. I was so frustrated I left my easy to use digital camera home today as I ran errands. The trees are still sheathed in ice and when the sun hits them just right, it is one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen! I was thrilled, though, with this sweet shot at my own front door.

Grandparents and grandchildren in my Sandwich Generation family have been delighting in these gorgeous ice covered scenes all around the town

If you’ve never experienced this before, I wish you could reach out through the internet to touch the branches on this bush! It CRUNCHES. Seriously! All of this is totally out of my normal experience, since I’ve always lived in the more temperate areas of both coasts. It’s been quite a delight, though, I must say. And my grandkids and senior mom are enjoying all of this as well. Though after seeing my tumble, my senior mom is being much more careful to stay in the house and safe! And that’s a good thing! She’s busily doing her physical therapy exercises and faithfully pedaling on her mini exercise bike.

So far, no power outages so we still have plenty of power and heat. Just in case that heater quits working, though, I made sure I grabbed one of my senior mom’s garden wagons and moved a good supply of firewood into the garage, as well as stocking up on some fire starters.

One of my senior moms favorite gardening tools - a garden wagon - was a big help moving firewood into the garage to keep it dry

Overall, so far, it’s turning out to be a very intriguing and lovely winter full of plenty of sweet shots for Tuesday from my digital camera! Gotta love that it’s so easy to use when everything else is at this time of year is slippery and a bit harder to use! 🙂 How about you and your Sandwich Generation family? Are you weathering the winter weather OK? We’d love to hear! And for more sweet shots for Tuesday…
