Christmas Day is when we celebrate the greatest gift of all. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the Savior of the world. What a blessed gift. As the Nicene Creed puts it, “I believe in…one God…and one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.”
Another of God’s awesome gifts to us is the gift of salvation. Romans 10:9 tells us, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.’” What an awesome gift! And it wasn’t just for His disciples or for the people who lived then. It’s for all people, everywhere.
I love it when Jesus referred to us when He talked to Thomas in John 20, “Then saith He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto Him, “My Lord and my God.” Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” That’s us! We are included in those who have not seen yet have believed!
To me, another gift from God is being included in His Word like that!
Three precious gifts from God – just a small sampling of all the many, many gifts He has given us. I offer them to you as a gift of encouragement and pray that you will be blessed by them and by His Word, and that your upcoming new year will be full of His joy, His love, and His blessings.
