My grandchildren and I had a chance to use the Advent candles and wreaths the past couple of days. We’ve also been enjoying the various children’s nativity sets for Christmas that I love to collect and they love to help me find. On Friday, my granddaughter and I discovered a new musical Nativity set to add to the collection. We went to a local thrift store and were delighted to discover find this for under $3! What a treat for both of us – full of sweet family memories for Advent!
It joined the music Christmas Nativity set my grandkids and I found at Walgreen’s a couple of years ago.
I bought this simple wooden children’s Nativity set this year at a Christmas craft sale. I loved its looks and thought it might be a good pattern for future activities for grandparents and grandchildren.
We even have a couple of unique Nativity Christmas tree ornaments.
Here’s one we found for our easy homemade Christmas tree ornaments activities for grandparents and grandchildren. It was a plain wooden children’s Nativity set ornament that the grandkids enjoyed coloring.
When the grandkids were much younger, I treated both sets of grandkids to an unbreakable Nativity set from Fisher Price. They make lovely Christmas gift ideas for grandkids. Sadly, they are getting harder and more expensive to find, but I was pleased to notice one of my favorite toy companies, Melissa and Doug, has cute wooden children’s Christmas Nativity sets.
Of course, there is another alternative as well. It’s very fun to enjoy Christmas crafts activities for grandparents and grandchildren while crafting your own handmade children’s Nativity sets. I’ve done a couple over the years with different grandchildren including one with popsicle sticks:
You can find directions for this and many other handcrafted children’s Nativity sets at my Pinterest boards, Grandkid Fun and Christmas Joys.
What about you and your grandchildren? Do you enjoy children’s Nativity sets together, or have other special traditions for Advent? We’d love to hear!

I love nativities. I’ve got a plain white one, but I’m so often tempted to buy another one! I really want my grandmothers one b/c I had such good memories of putting it up with her!
Oh, Amydeanne, your grandmother’s sounds lovely. I do hope you someday get it. Such sweet family memories! 🙂
