Losing Sleep Over All Ages
Ahhh, the joys of the Sandwich Generation caring for elderly parents and helping with the grandchildren. Once upon a time it was teens out late that brought me to my knees in prayer, waiting for a phone call. Nowadays, it’s still seniors doing that to me – but senior citizens with their Jitterbug cell phones, rather than seniors in high school! (OK, a bit cheesy, I know, but I do love silly jokes and puns! 🙂 )
Jitterbug Cell Phones for Seniors to The Rescue
I was gone for a few days and needed to get in touch with my senior mom. I tried the house, but no answer. I tried her Jitterbug cell phone for senior citizens, but to no avail. After umpteen years of panicking for no reason, I’ve gotten better at giving these situations to God in prayer, which I did. And sure enough, a few minutes later she called and explained she had been busy enjoying her senior gardening activities – trundling her garden wagon full of her pots into the garage since she was expecting a big storm. I had called when she couldn’t get her hands into her pocket, but she called as soon as she could after.
Jitterbug Cell Phones and Medical Alert Devices
I was happy to hear her, and happy to know that she had one of those handy dandy cell phones for senior citizens so she could hear me and call me back so easily. It really takes a load off my mind when I have to be away from home. She’s never yet needed it, but I especially love that in an emergency all she has to do is dial 0 and the operator will come on the line and place a call to anyone on her list or to 911 for her. It doesn’t get much easier than that! Except, of course, for a medical alert device like an emergency pendant or wrist watch. But those are limited to just working at the home. (Although, GreatCall has a medical alert device, Splash, that works anywhere. BUT it requires the senior to put it into a waterproof bag before bathing and it’s a bit heavier than my senior mom’s Philips Life Alert. For those two reasons, we have stuck with Philips. But my senior mom-in-law loves her Splash. 🙂 ). The Jitterbug cell phone for seniors goes everywhere! For those of us involved in the issues of caring for elderly parents, that’s a real boon!
There are a couple of other new cell phones for elderly parents that I’m starting to hear about and hope to check into further. So far, though, the ones I’ve looked at don’t offer what we get with the Jitterbug. We personally and definitely consider it one of the best cell phones for senior citizens.
I kid you not, I truly think that the Jitterbug is an essential tool in our senior parents gardening toolbox! They have the freedom to go out and about, knowing that in their pocket, help is only one button away! Yup, that sounds a bit cheesy too, but it’s true! 🙂
P.S. I didn’t know the jitterbug did so much. This is an example of the many posts that contain lots of helpful information. Thank you for sharing.

Sounds interesting.
I’m lucky in that it was my mom, now 88, who convinced us years ago to get a cell phone, so that she wouldn’t worry about us. So we made a deal that we would both get one. It certainly makes life easier when I can reach her on it almost any time. Wonderful for a greater peace of mind.

Hi Barbara, Thank you. 🙂 Isn’t it wonderful when our senior parents are pro-active like that. My parents were not thrilled with technology but were wonderful about getting long term care insurance and setting up wills and power of attorney. And, while it took me awhile to convince my senior mom that Jitterbug cell phones really are great for senior citizens – including her, she is great with it now. And as you say, it is so much easier to track each other down. A BIG blessing for all of us caring for our elderly parents. 🙂
