Talk about huge smiles on the face of this baby boomer grandma today. God has had me "hunkering down" on Romans 12 this week – both for meditating on and for Scripture praying. So when it was time to work on this post, I decided to look for a hymn song that would go well with it. I found a few but none I especially cared for. Then I came to one that brought back such fun family memories and gave me those huge smiles.
My kids and I LOVED Psalty the Singing Songbook all through their childhood. In fact, I had been blessed by the music of Ernie and Debbie Rettino BEFORE they started the whole Psalty ministry and I still love to hear them sing. So when I heard this rendition of Psalty (Ernie) singing Romans 12:1-2, I had to share it with you as well. It's a fun little ditty but it's also a great way of helping our grandkids (and us) with these important and encouraging Bible memory verses, don't you think?

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 (NASB)
Did you and your kids or grandkids ever listen to Psalty? Or do you have another favorite hymn to illustrate Romans 12:1-2? We'd love to hear. And in the meantime, have a blessed week as you go about juggling the various Sandwich Generation issues of our lives and meditating on these vital words. Also don't forget to enjoy…
as well as…
My kids grew up on Psalty also! I like the one they sing that goes, “Be thankful…from the bottom of your heart, …and tell everyone that Jesus is good to you.”
I helped with VBS at church this week and the songs weren’t from Psalty, but very catchy and a great way to sow God’s word in their hearts.
Thanks for sharing some great memories for me.
How fun, Ruth. What sweet memories. 🙂 Isn’t it so much fun! My favorite is from the Christmas album – “It’s not by power, or by might, But by His Spirit.” I still love to sing that to my grandkids. And we’ve enjoyed some great VBS music over the years as well. Like you, I LOVE hiding God’s word in our hearts with music. It seems to last so much longer, doesn’t it. 🙂
