I was reading your blog and saw the article, “Cancer drug may improve memory in Alzheimer’s patients”. I thought you might be interested in the New Medicines in Development for Older Americans report.

There are currently 91 medicines in the pipeline to help the millions of American adults suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. All of the medicines are either in clinical trials or awaiting review by the Food and Drug Administration. One of the potential medicines for Alzheimer’s disease has two mechanisms. It blocks the production of beta amyloid protein, which forms plaques in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients and is thought to be the cause of Alzheimer’s, and the medicine also inhibits the degradation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is thought to improve memory. A report by National Institutes of Health researchers indicates that the medicine may improve Alzheimer’s symptoms and may also interfere with the progression of the disease.
