For any of you who would like to know the lyrics to the Bible songs I listed, here are the lyrics for those songs no long under copyright, or the links for those that are under copyright. One caveat: I usually only sing 1 or 2 verses for each song. I am posting all the verses available, though, for any of those who are better at memorizing than me:

Jesus Loves Me – Probably one of the best known children’s songs ever, it has tons of verses. I usually only sing the first to my grandkids, but here are all the official ones. For even more that others have added, check out DLTK:

Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
they are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! loves me still,
‘tho I’m very weak and ill,
that I might from sin be free,
bled and died upon the tree.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died
heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
let His little child come in.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He will stay
close beside me all the way.
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me when I’m good.
When I do the things I should.
Jesus loves me when I’m bad,
but it makes him oh so sad.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Joy to the World, The Lord Has Come – Yes, a Christmas song. I am infamous in my family for loving all Christmas songs all year. My grandkids think it’s great, though, so I’m happy. And if you check out the next song, you’ll find I have Easter covered, so really, I’m just working on doctrine.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Alleluia by Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 – I have to be honest, my version is a bit different. I discovered there are more than two versions of this lovely hymn. I don’t know how, but I managed to mangle all of them into yet another version but it contains the gospel in a nutshell so I typically sing – “Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia; Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia; Who did once upon the cross; Alleluia; Suffer to redeem the lost, Alleluia.” You should hear my grandkids and me belt out those Alleluias! For the purists among you, here is one of the proper versions (You sing Alleluia after each line) Here’s another version:

1. Christ the Lord is risen today,
Sons of men and angels say.
Raise your joys and triumphs high;
Sing, ye heavens, and, earth, reply.

2. Love’s redeeming work is done,
Fought the fight, the battle won.
Lo, our Sun’s eclipse is o’er;
Lo, He sets in blood no more.

3. Vain the stone, the watch, the seal;
Christ has burst the gates of hell.
Death in vain forbids His rise;
Christ has opened Paradise.

4. Lives again our glorious King;
Where, 0 Death, is now thy sting?
Once He died our souls to save;
Where thy victory, O Grave?

5. Soar we now where Christ has led,
Following our exalted Head.
Made like Him, like Him we rise;
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies.

6. Hail the Lord of earth and heaven!
Praise to Thee by both be given!
Thee we greet triumphant now:
Hail, the Resurrection Thou!

I’ve Been Redeemed (And That’s Not All, I’ve Been Baptized) – This one is under copyright so just find the lyrics to sing to your grandkids here and if you want to know the tune, you’ll enjoy this piano version!

The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock – My grandsons and I really love this song! This site is nice as it has several other children’s Bible songs.

That’s enough music and Bible songs for your grandkids for today. More tomorrow…

Combine shower time and kid's Bible songs to help teach your grandkids important spiritual truths such as salvation, baptism, surrender, and more.

Like

<g:plusone size="small" count="" href="http://www.sandwichINK.com/song-memories-for-grandkids"></g:plusone>

“All of us have had the experience of hearing a tune from childhood and having that melody evoke a memory or a feeling. The music we hear early on tends to stay with us all our lives.” Fred Rogers wrote this in his book, The World According to Mr. Rogers . Grandparents can make excellent use of this when they are spending time with their grandchildren. As Paul tells us, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Col. 3:16. I love to sing and play fun music, Bible songs, and educational songs to my grandkids to help them learn about God, math, grammar, and life in general.

One tradition I started with with my grandkids was to sing children’s Bible songs whenever I gave them a shower. Today I had a wee visitor and was busy singing away, with him joining in every so often in between spitting out water. As I did, I reflected on the fact that I tend to pick from the same twelve or so songs, so they have each heard these songs over and over. I realized today that they comprised a complete education “curriculum” for their spiritual walk. They include:

Jesus Loves Me -

Joy to the World, The Lord Has Come

Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Alleluia

I’ve Been Redeemed (And That’s Not All, I’ve Been Baptized)

The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock

I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

Trust and Obey

I Surrender All

Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace Whose Mind Is Stayed on Thee

Rejoice in the Lord Always

Have I Not Commanded You Be Strong & Courageous…For the Lord Your God Will Be With You Wherever You May Go

And my own little song, “God Is Faithful, God is True, God is Love, God loves you” – sung to Frere Jacques.

By singing these songs over and over, I’ve been teaching them that God loves them, that they need to receive Christ as Savior, be baptized, follow Him always, trust Him, obey Him, surrender themselves to Him, rejoice in Him, keep their minds set on Him, and be strong in Him, no matter what. These are all lessons their parents and I are regularly teaching them, but it was nice to realize that these shower-time songs help punctuate those lessons, and impress them in their minds in a different way.

Someday, when they are older, I hope and pray that as they make choices and decisions, the music and these songs will keep coming to mind, along with all the Bible verses they’ve memorized, and the lessons they’ve learned from their parents, grandparents, and teachers. I am trusting God that they will make positive choices that reflect their own love for God and reflect the positive lessons they’ve learned along the way.
