Hooray! My senior mom and I are starting to feel a bit more settled into our new abode. Today I was able to straighten up the garage enough to park my car in it – and I beat the massive rains and snow, assuming there are any this year. 🙂 One of my sweet grandkids spent the night and helped me assemble the table since we FINALLY found the screws to put it together. And oh my, the gorgeous tree colors and breathtaking views that surround us are truly a blessing and delight as we drive around, get lost, get found, get lost, get found… 🙂 I am so grateful to God for the beauty of His world and for grand GPS apps, I’m telling you!
And even though we’ve moved to a new state and a new home, there are some things that never change. Like reading the Word of God with grandkids before tucking them into bed when they spend the night. These treasured verses were a sweet treat last night.
God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever…As for me, the nearness of God is my good. I have made the Lord God my refuge that I may tell of all Thy works. Psalm 73:26,28
What’s a tradition for you and your grandkids that would cross state lines, if you did? We’d love to hear! And now, it’s off to find a garage remote control. With all the comings and goings of our Sandwich Generation family, those come in quite handy, don’t they?
Life can be tough sometimes, can't it? You and I, in the throes of the Sandwich Generation, are busy dealing with all the ups and downs that come with caring for the elderly parents and relatives in our family while juggling the needs of our kids or even babysitting grandchildren. Whether we are dealing with a beloved parent who has a debilitating disease or dementia symptoms or a grandchild who broke his leg playing soccer, it's difficult, isn't it? And if both are going on at once, it may seem like we just don't have the strength and wisdom to deal with it all!
Isn't it wonderful to KNOW that, even on the most difficult days – ones that make you feel like you just can't keep going on – there is HOPE and HELP in GOD! And it's only a simple CALL away. (Not only that, unlike my iPhone or my senior mom's cell phone for seniors, this call never gets a busy signal! 🙂 )
Comforting and encouraging Bible verses, like Psalm 73:25b-26, "…besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever," are wonderful reminders of the FACT that GOD is our STRENGTH FOREVER! They are perfect for us, in the Sandwich Generation, to spend time in daily, thinking over – meditating about – dwelling on! Not to mention, teaching them as Bible memory verses for our children and grandchildren. What a blessed gift to us from the awesome Word of God!
