old Christian hymns

Sweet Sunday blessings from Kaye Swain social media blogger in Placer and Sacramento countyHappy Sunday!

I know many elderly seniors aren’t able to get out to church for a variety of reasons. So I thought this might be a sweet encouragement to many.

This YouTube video is 40 minutes of instrumental old Christian hymns that I’ve added to my Sweet Sunday Blessings playlist at YouTube. While there are no words in this video, I know many – like myself – know so many of the words to these sweet old hymns and it’s a lovely and quiet backdrop that many seniors will appreciate.

Here’s another fun video from the Gaither Family with what may be the Oldest Living Quartet (the tenor is 92!) per Bill Gaither. They are singing a sweet old hymn, “I’m Telling The World About His Love” that put a big smile on my face. I’m thinking it will on yours too. 🙂

One of my favorite sermon series on the book of Revelation, that I enjoyed several years ago, is by Stephen Davey. He is pastor of Colonial Baptist Church in Cary North Carolina and his teaching is wonderful. Very Biblical, interesting, and educational. I always learn a lot from him! Now seems like a great time to listen to it again and I thought you might enjoy coming along for a listen.

Click here to go to the Revelation page, where you can find buttons that let you CLICK to listen, download, and more. The first sermon in the series is Revelation 1:1-3.

I pray these will be a blessing to young and old, and especially our sweet aging senior citizens – both friends and relatives.

Sweet Sunday blessings,

The Sandwich Generation granny nanny is encouraged by the reminder from this cross for Lent clip art of Jesus love for us.jpgHappy Resurrection Day! Easter Blessings to you ALL – in AND out of the Sandwich Generation. I made it to early service, enjoyed lovely music and a wonderful sermon on the joys we will experience in the days and years to come, thanks to the wonderful sacrifice of our precious Savior, Jesus Christ, and HIS RESURRECTION! Praise God, He is TRULY ALIVE!

Earlier this week, I rediscovered this old Christian hymn that was a favorite of mine in my childhood. Its words and tune are simple and such a wonderful reminder of all the many blessings we receive in and through Jesus Christ. I sang this to my grandsons a couple of times this week – and look forward to sharing it with them again next year.

Here are ALL the lyrics (which are quite hard to find, I discovered. It made me REALLY appreciate my very handy Laridian Bible app with the hymnal option I added.

"I Know that My Redeemer Lives" by Samuel Medley, 1738-1799

1. I know that my Redeemer lives;

What comfort this sweet sentence gives!

He lives, He lives, who once was dead;

He lives, my ever-living Head.

2. He lives triumphant from the grave,

He lives eternally to save,

He lives all-glorious in the sky,

He lives exalted there on high.

3. He lives to bless me with His love,

He lives to plead for me above.

He lives my hungry soul to feed,

He lives to help in time of need.

4. He lives to grant me rich supply,

He lives to guide me with His eye,

He lives to comfort me when faint,

He lives to hear my soul's complaint.

5. He lives to silence all my fears,

He lives to wipe away my tears

He lives to calm my troubled heart,

He lives all blessings to impart.

6. He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly Friend,

He lives and loves me to the end;

He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing;

He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

7. He lives and grants me daily breath;

He lives, and I shall conquer death:

He lives my mansion to prepare;

He Iives to bring me safely there.

8. He lives, all glory to His name!

He lives, my Jesus, still the same.

Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,

"I know that my Redeemer lives!"

Here's a simple and lovely rendition of it. Not all of the verses but many of them!

Have a blessed and beautiful Easter, sharing a sweet spiritual legacy with your whole family in and out of the Sandwich Generation!

The Lord is good - faithfulness continues through all generations including the Sandwich GenerationI was delighted to find this lovely song and video from one of the Women of Faith conferences. It goes great with Wednesday's encouraging Bible verses, For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations, not to mention the cute placecard and coloring page for our grandkids. A sweet way to help all of our Sandwich Generation family enjoy Thanksgiving all month, don't you think?

I have been so blessed by the music ministry of the Women of Faith. I bought one of their music albums after my husband went to be with the Lord and played it, along with several other praise and worship music albums, over and over. It was a way for me to keep my mind focused on God first and foremost, in spite of dealing with the pain, grief and loss during that difficult time. And God richly blessed me in and through that time with His peace that truly is beyond all human understanding!

I pray this month of Thanksgiving will be full of His blessings and peace for you and your Sandwich Generation family, no matter what you may be dealing with. And I join with so many others, including Denise at Caregiving.com, in wishing you an encouraging National Family Caregivers Month.
