Autumn greetings from Kaye Swain blogger and REALTOR in Roseville CA

Sweet autumn temps for Roseville CA real estate agent blogger Kaye Swain blog 1200

I am so thrilled that our temperatures, while popping up into the 90s for a day or so, are again headed straight back down to the 80s. Hooray. Autumn is truly here, the leaves are starting to turn, and I’m continuing to enjoy autumn bliss offline AND online.  Online you ask? Yup! Between Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Fall Blog Linky Parties, I’m thoroughly enjoying every gorgeous autumn color you can imagine. What a sweet treat for the senses!

Swim shoes are a big help for boomers and seniors caring for elderly parents and swimming via Kaye Swain Roseville California real estate agent and SandwichINK blogger

Even though summer has said good-bye, my senior mom and I are still enjoying walking in the swimming pool. It’s great exercise for both of us and something she can do more easily than most other exercises. It’s an indoor pool that’s heated so theoretically we should be able to do it year round. I tend to get too cold in the winter months while she used to enjoy it all the time. I’ve noticed this year that she is getting chillier too. So we shall see.

One thing we both noticed is that we have been getting foot and leg cramps while walking. That’s never happened before and I’m not sure why. Perhaps the rubber pad they use to walk on. Though I’ve walked on these at other gyms as well??? I decided to get us both some water shoes to see if that would help. We tried them for the first time today. They aren’t the prettiest things in the world. BUT, my mom only got one minor cramp that went away quickly and I didn’t get any. So I’m hoping these will be a good solution for us both and thought I’d share the idea with y’all in case any of you have ever had this issue. And YES, if you have suggestions, do share them as well. 🙂

It’s such a sweet treat when a grandchild calls us, isn’t it? And even better when they want our advice. A couple of my granddaughters called yesterday and asked if I had any autumn crafts to suggest as they wanted to do some that afternoon. I shared some fun and easy ones like making Thanksgiving turkeys with hands, similar to the wreath we did a few years ago – then writing people or things they were thankful for on each feather. I also added a couple of goodies quickly to my Pinterest board, Grand for Kids and Grandkids and sent them the link for that. They were quite excited, indeed. And I can’t wait to see what they made.

Nothing But the Blood Of Jesus” is one of the lovely old Christian hymns that I do so love. We sang it in church this week as we took communion and it was such a sweet blessing. When I went looking for a video for it, I discovered several different versions – all beautiful. Some were sung very slowly. Some were sung really fast (one of my fave versions is like that 🙂 ). I saved all the ones I loved to my Sunday Sunday Blessings playlist at Youtube, along with a few other lovely hymns I discovered along the way. That way you can enjoy listening to as many or as few others as you would like. But I chose this version, by Guy Penrod who often sings with the Gaither family, for sharing here as the tempo was right in the middle. Not too slow, not too fast. And very sweetly encouraging – as were all the other versions as well, no matter the tempo, due to the awesome words including, “What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” Such a vital truth for us all!

One of my fave Bible teachers, David Guzik, continues his sermon series on the book of John at YouTube. You can find his church’s channel by CLICKING HERE. I’m also adding this sermon series to a playlist at my own YouTube channel – Bible Studies – Verse By Verse  each week, to make it easy to find it and others as I share them.

Have a blessed and beautiful week!

Autumn Decorations for the home remind me of grandkid and grandparent fun Kaye Swain real estate agent blogger Kaye Swain

WOW! Can you believe it’s Autumn! Woohoo! My favorite season! I’ve already put a couple of cute decorations up including the fun crew in the photo above. I look at that and see autumn fun and grandkid love all over it. One of my grandchildren made the wooden pumpkin head on the left. A couple other grandkids and I used to play catch with the pumpkin head in the middle (it’s a squishy ball). And the scarecrow on the right is one of several scarecrows in my autumn family of scarecrows that my grandchildren and I have delighted over and played with through the years. Then I added a few tiny mini pumpkins, something I have done most years, often having the grandkids paint them for me. It’s a sweet treasury of memories wrapped up in lovely autumn goodness. Have you started decorating yet?

My senior mom and I had a delightful time at Green Acres this week. That’s our local Roseville CA garden center. It was all dressed up for autumn with pumpkins and sunflowers and flowers and more. A delight for all our senses. AND we learned something new. Did you know there is such a thing as a scented geranium? I’ve never heard of that before. They only had one. We smelled it. It was interesting but the scent was not our “cup of tea.” Being a rose person, it’s slightly citrusy smell was definitely unexpected. I have seen other scents such as Apricot so we may look again next spring when I imagine they will have more selections.

In the meantime, we came home with 2 camellias, 2 non-scented geraniums, and daffodil bulbs for my senior mom. Such great exercise for her body and an encourager for her emotionally, as we discussed in the most recent #ElderCareChat on Twitter. You can read the recap at Strategies for Healthy Aging or the full recap by clicking here – it’s full of tips and resources on positive aging in place, fighting depression, staying healthy longer, and more. Our sweet hostess, Michelle Seitzer, reminded me that this #ElderCareChat has been going on at Twitter for years – almost since I started blogging back in August of 2008! WOW!!! So many grand friends I’ve made over the years through blogging – including you! Thank you for being a vital part of this! 🙂

And, I’m SOOOO excited. One of my top 10 favorite Bible teachers, David Guzik, shares his weekly sermons at YouTube. You can find his channel by CLICKING HERE. And here is the first in a long and lovely series in the book of John. A great start to your week if you, or a beloved senior, can’t get out to church. Or how about as a supplement to your daily Bible studies in the middle of the week?

Have a blessed and beautiful week!

Autumn leaves are much loved by my grandkids and me. When everyone else is busily raking their lawn to achieve the bare look, my grandkids and I are crunchily dancing in the leaves, watching in awe as they fall to the ground in God’s awesome “Autumn Ballet,” and making craft projects with them.

We have fun collecting a bag or two of leaves, picking out the prettiest ones and gluing them to construction paper. These projects can be as simple as a random display or as fancy as their imaginations take them. I love to bring Autumn into the house by hanging these masterpieces all around.

Another fun idea is to let them help me decorate by filling a couple of wide-mouthed, clear vases with leaves, as well as artfully decorating my fireplace mantel with them. It can also be fun to add other autumnal decorations such as pine cones, cute little scarecrows on a stick, etc.

These are simple and fun ways to create great fall memories, teach our grandkids to rejoice in God’s lovely world, and just plain have fun with them. Happy Autumn, y’all. 🙂
