A Pause In Advent

Merry Christmas! It's the last Sunday in Advent 2012 and only two days til Christmas! I'm still not ready AND have sweet company coming! Yikes! Where does the time go!

As promised earlier this week, I have a Merry Christmas Smilebox for you and your Sandwich Generation family to enjoy, with the two versions of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen that my grandson liked the best.

How about you and your grandkids or other family members? Do you have a different favorite of this delightful old Christmas Carol that shares the gospel in such a grand and uplifting way? We'd love to hear. And have a blessed and beautiful Advent Sunday!

Merry Christmas cute country clipart for the Sandwich GenerationThis is the last Wednesday before Christmas! YOWZERS! The carol I selected this time is once again courtesy of my grandchildren. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is one of my favorite carols, but I don’t think it is played as often as many others. I was singing it in the the car the other day when my baby boomer brain blanked on the last word. I was pleasantly shocked when my grandchild knew it  and sang it for me!   🙂

I have a couple of different versions of it, including the one by Jars of Clay. The grandchild currently playing on my netbook as I write this liked that version. But then he heard the one by Mannheim Steamroller and loved it also. So I decided to make a Smilebox for y’all with BOTH versions to enjoy and will share it with you on Sunday (so be sure to check back). But in the meantime, here’s another cute picture and a couple of coloring pages to share with our grandkids.

One of the reasons I love this carol is that it tells the Christmas story so wonderfully. I loved this article I found by Ace Colins, that gives more of the background of this delightful hymn. I don’t think there is one specific verse it is based on – more likely the whole passage in Luke and/or Matthew. However, my wonderful Laridian Pocket Bible with the hymns option I added to it shows Luke 2:10-11 coupled with this song. What a perfect Scripture for this song AND what an encouraging and comforting Scripture for all of us, especially in difficult and dark days.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid ; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Here’s some Christmas stationery for grandkids AND senior parents, not to mention us, along with a couple of cute Christmas coloring pages for our grandboys and grandgirls – all to share the Good News of the Christmas story. My grandson helped me pick out the pictures and the fonts, just for you!

In a normal year, this last week before Christmas can be a crazy week full of fun activities, last minute shopping, and more. For those of us in the Sandwich Generation, you can often multiply that exponentially. That’s the time I grab on harder to God and His promises and make sure I’m spending time in His Word to keep me sane and centered in HIm during this often lovely but oh-so-busy season. This is another way of sharing that example with our grandkids, don’t you think? A lovely way of leaving a spiritual legacy – so vital in this day and age!

My grandkids and I enjoyed some holiday one-on-one time over the last few weeks. One of the activities a grandchild helped me with was preparing this cute Christmas clipart to remind us of the wealth of gifts we have received on Christmas Day. It started with the baby – our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. It's also such a joy for this Sandwich Generation granny nanny to remember, and share with the grandkids – and with you – all the gifts we have IN Him…

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly places IN Christ. Ephesians 1:3

WOW! Now that is definitely an awesome gift for Christmas, isn't it! EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly places! And if you go read all of Ephesians 1, you'll discover even more sweet treasures and gifts from our Heavenly Father, Who loves us so much. Talk about your encouraging Bible verses along with such wonderful Advent truths to share with our whole family during devotions and activities, from the kids and grand children on up to the sweet elderly parents we are caring for.

And you'll find even more inspirational and uplifting Scriptures at Internet Cafe Devotions for this Word-Filled Wednesday. See you there! 🙂

It's the fourth Sunday in Advent! Next week is Christmas! Whether things are going smoothly or health issues have your Sandwich Generation family in a season of grief, I pray you will be blessed by MercyMe singing one of their lovely Christmas praise and worship hymn songs and music. Here's one of my Smilebox eCards Creations with Gloria, reminding us of God's wonderful and overwhelming sacrificial love for us.
