Do You Love Christian Spy Novels As Much As This Grandma?

by on February 15, 2010

As a Sandwich Generation senior home care giver and grandmother, I really appreciate and value books of almost all genres including Christian romance novels, real estate books, computer books, mystery novels, and so many more. I love 'em all and appreciate how handy they are when I am waiting, as caregivers often do. Now that my iPhone has the Kindle app, I am never without something to read! It's grand!

Some of my favorite types are definitely mystery and spy novels, from many of the Tom Clancy books to Miss Marple, who was always a favorite of mine, to Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax, who is a delight to "meet" in the pages of her books! I especially love to read Christian mystery and spy books. Being faith-based adds an extra dimension that makes them especially interesting to me.

As I wrote in Mysterious Fun For Grandchildren, Diane and David Munson's Christian mystery novels are included in my favorites. I was thrilled, therefore, when these two busy mystery writers wrote me the nicest note about that article AND sent me their latest book to review for you along with TWO MORE BOOKS TO GIVE AWAY! Talk about fun Random Gifts of Kindness! I'm still smiling weeks after they wrote! :)

I just finished reading Hero's Ransom and enjoyed it on several levels. First, it was a fun read for one who loves the spy and suspense novels category.  It definitely kept me hooked all the way through, with several major twists and turns. I was pleased with a great ending that I did NOT see coming! I love to watch NCIS TV show episodes and this book reminded me of some of their plots involving local crimes that extend overseas. As many of the Law and Order episodes like to say, the plotlines were "ripped from the headlines," touching on archeological smuggling, spy satellites, and even innocents (or was she so innocent?!?!?!) being taken hostage in a hostile foreign country. Very enthralling, indeed.

It's also interesting from a  grandparent's perspective as one of the main characters is a grandmother taking care of her grandson while her daughter is working in another country for what turns out to be an extended period of time.

Overall, as you can probably guess, I highly recommend this book, just as I do their first three Christian mystery books.

UPDATE 3/1/10 For those of you visiting from the Boomers and Seniors: News You Can Use blog carnival, WELCOME! For all you wonderful readers, the mystery book giveway has ended, (CONGRATULATIONS TO KRISTA AND TAMMY), however we have one other fun giveaway - Spare Spikes – a lightweight alternative to snowboots for women and men - great to keep in the car for your winter weather emergency kit – for yourself or your aging parents. :)

Speaking of those three novels, one is Confirming Justice. Would you like to win one of the two copies of Confirming Justice that I have to give away? I thought so. It's easy to enter too. :)  Just leave a comment below with your name and email address for one entry.

For extra entries to one one of these fun mystery books, you can:

  • Sign up for the FREE SandwichINK email which will not only get you an extra entry for the book but it will also keep you up to date on all kinds of Sandwich Generation resources and info to help and encourage those caring for the elderly relatives in their family along with their grandchildren. Make sure you then come back and leave a separate comment that you signed up.
  • Tweet this, then come back and leave a comment that you did.
  • Write about this at Facebook, then, you guessed it, come on back and leave yet another comment. :)
  • And, finally, blog about this, and, of course, one final comment.

Phew! That's a lot of comments, but the good news is that each comment/action counts for one entry. The contest ends on March 1, 2010 at midnight. After that, two names will be randomly picked from all the entrants' comments and posted here, along with sending the winners an email. They will then have one week to contact me with their mailing adress, otherwise another winner will be randomly picked.

All right, all you busy Sandwich Generation grandparents who are also caring for the elderly parents in your family! Here's a fun contest that's easy to fit into your time schedule. On your mark, get set, GO!       :)   :)   :)
