Hi Kevin, What a great idea for walking in apartments and condos. We were in an apartment for several months last year but it was all outside. However some senior apartments nearby were all enclosed and would have been perfect for that. :)

Good idea. Although I love winter, the snow and cold can make it difficult for seniors to get out for a walk. Many of my clients are discouraged with not being able to walk due to the cold and snow. I'll start recommending they head out to walmart or one of the other superstores to get some exercise (and shop). Some of the senior communities even have a free shuttle to these places for shopping... now they can also say it's for exercise! Another idea... I also have clients that simply walk around their apartment/condo building. They start from the top and take the elevator between floors. Those with 4 wheeled walkers can even sit down for a rest along the way.

Hi Ron, Thanks for stopping by. That's a great idea about using Adult Day Care centers for exercises for seniors. Another option in some areas can be senior centers that offer options for exercises for seniors. A good friend of mine can go walk on treadmills, swim in the indoor pool, or just meander around their inside track at her own speed. All great ways to stay active in spite of the cold. :)

Walking is so beneficial for seniors. Exercise will help prevent health problems. Seniors can walk a little each day to keep up with their exercise. I agree that finding a place to walk may become challenging in the winter months. Suggesting a Walmart or Target, or doing the mall walking, will be just as beneficial as walking outside.
To get more exercise, adult day care programs offer activities during the day including exercise oriented activities. Adult Day Care centers can be found by going onto www.GeriCareFinder.com and searching with the free search!
