Halloween Fun With Grandkids and Neighbors

by Kaye Swain on October 26, 2009

Oh my gracious! Can you believe Halloween is THIS Saturday!!! As behind as I am on so many other things, my grandkids and I have already had fun picking out tasty candy treats to hand out to our new neighbors. I was so proud of my granddaughter this year! She reminded me that many children have peanut and other allergies, not to mention issues with braces. Thanks to her, we are primarily serving non-peanut and not-brace-destroying candies. Most are also milk-free.

On top of that, we are making up little packets with the candies, tiny cheap toys & games from the Dollar store (for those kids who can’t have any candy), and cute little cards and bookmarks telling the kids about Jesus and His love for them (a tradition I started doing over 20 years ago). I was pleased to find a great selection of Pass It On Bible verse cards this year at Lifeway Christian Store! I even have some special, hand-made ones courtesy of my sweet grandchild.

She has been busy putting the packets together for me as I type this post. I can’t believe I’m actually ready a few days early! I’ll put them by the door, and be all ready for the cute little boys and girls to come show off their costumes to me. I know they’ll all look adorable, with the absolute cutest being my very own grandkids – both here and on the other coast. I’m not predjudiced, am I?!?!?! :)   :)   :)

How about you? Are you ready for Halloween?  :)   Don’t forget about the time change the day after! Also, be sure to sign up for the SandwichINK free email for lots of fun holiday and every day ideas for Sandwich Generation grandparents and grandkids.

It sounds like you are going to have a blast! As an unexpected surprise, I found out that my “other” two grands will be coming from several states away this weekend. So this is the 1st time all 4 will be together to go trick-or-treating! And I can make my traditional Beggar’s Night meal of coney dogs, chips, veggies & dip, cider & donuts! I’ll have to see if I can get some of the bible verse cards…what a great idea! Thanks for reminding me of the time change…It totally was not on my radar screen! :)
