Grandparents and Grandchildren

Grandparent and grandchildren fun including Webkinz stuffed and virtual animals, great Wii games, easy crafts for grand kids and the seniors who love them, along with fun with Phonics and reading, and so much more.

Spring is springing in an intriguing variety of ways across the country. While heading to enjoy grandkids crafts with one set of grandkids, I discovered they had just enjoyed fresh snow.

Grandkids Craft Fun

I had such a lovely time with grandkids, crafts, games, and more recently (and am so grateful to God for providing snow-free drives both ways!) And what’s a little snow outside when we have plenty of crafty fun going on inside! Like Googly Guys, water paint pictures, LEGO Easter projects, finger puppets, make your own puzzles, friendship bracelets, Square One TV show and more!

The make your puzzles were a hit BUT they were very tricky to take apart. I got the biggest ones, hoping that would help, but we did have some tearing.

Would you believe it, the simplest turned out to be the most popular. These fun googly guys and gals were a total hit!!!! And very easy for all ages.

Grandkids Crafts Help from YouTube

Another thing that turned out well was putting a personalized YouTube playlist to work to teach us without as many distractions from ads and other videos that might not be appropriate! I used my youtube account that comes automatically with a gmail account to make four grandkid-friendly YouTube playlists.

Grandkids Yarn & Fabric Crafts

This playlist has most of the videos we used for the crafts listed here.

Grandkids Crafts

This is all the rest of the crafts ideas I find.

Grandkids Square One

Square One was a fun educational show for kids that my children all loved. One credits it for helping her through high school algebra. It actually makes math fun and I enjoyed it almost as much as they did. I’ve watched for years but it never came back on TV. Somehow, a few people have rounded up several of the episodes for YouTube. But they also have other videos on their sites I wasn’t crazy about. So I made a Square One playlist on my site and loaded it with a bunch of the episodes. Now they can watch these videos and it just keeps going to the next one on my playlist and no worries. Of course, once you get to the end of the play list you need to monitor it closely to see where it goes after the last episode. 😉

Grandkid Joys

This was my original playlist and has a wide mixture of things. It’s pretty much my miscellaneous play list for them.

I have a bunch of good videos in these playlists. That way I could turn it on and the grandkids could watch in a fairly controlled environment . When you create a playlist and they start watching, it keeps going to the next video on the playlist. That way, they don’t get out to the not-always-great-suggestions til the playlist is done! So if you pick good videos and make a long playlist it can keep them safely busy (under supervision) for a good amount of time!

Crochet joys always popular with Kaye Swain grandkids

That’s also how my granddaughters also learned how to make cool friendship bracelets I brought. It involved weaving and I’m not great at that – but they became quite the experts! Grandkids crafts joys indeed!

Crazy 8s ruled grandkids this week Kaye Swain

We had a most delightful time together, made tons of goodies, enjoyed several games of Crazy 8s, learned some new crafts, and are already looking forward to the next visit. Fortunately, in between, I know there will be lots of hangman games and sweet chats via the telephone, which is such a blessing when distance separates us! 🙂

Grandkids St Patricks Day Smiles

One last thing before we part. St Patricks Day smiles with these cute coloring pages including a Scripture Verse with a hint of GREEN in it.

Healthy Eating Tools To Help Busy Caregivers

Healthy Eating AND Thinking Tips With the Grandkids

Egg is infamous for sticking, right?  Apparently the protein in it makes it stick. When my grandkids and I make scrambled eggs with little butter we have to soak it in water with dishwashing detergent to clean it relatively easy. So when I started my healthy eating program including a poached egg daily on healthy AND only 60-calorie toast,

Kaye Swain multigenerational blogger Roseville Real Estate Agent shares healthy eating tips 2

I noticed the egg pan always had a skin around it. I would empty he pan, pop it in sink with water and a squirt of Cascade and let it sit for a while. Then it wiped out easily.

The other day I was rushing and just wiped the pan without thinking, along without soaking. Lo and behold it came off same as always. What LOOKED hard was really easy. And what looked like a dumb mistake (not squirting the cascade) will actually end up saving me the cost of a few bucks over the next 20 or so years!

A tiny thing I know. But I’ve seen God do that many times in my life. He may say No or Wait and I would think it was dreadful news. Then it would turn out that waiting, or not getting a yes at all was really more of a blessing than a yes would have been!

That’s something I have worked hard to teach my grandkids, which then reminds and encourages me. Sometimes my senior mom too!

Gotta love the little things in life, right? 😉

Encouragement for Loved Ones Away From Home

Speaking of grandkids and aging parents, I thought this Bible verse would be encouraging for both, and particularly for grandkids away at college and/or elderly parents in the hospital or care facility.

Cool Word Search Book For Grandkids AND Senior Parents

Check out The Everything Large-Print Bible Word Search Book I got my senior mom. I thought it was just a regular word search puzzle book, but using Bible Words. And the first few searches are just that. It has your normal Word Search – Bible words in columns on the left and the word search puzzle on the right.

After a few dozen pages, though, it turns into Bible verse passages with the word search words bolded!

What a cool idea. A fun way to encourage daily Bible reading. Great for our grandkids as well as our senior parents! Adding that to my Christmas gift possibles. 🙂

Spring is Leaving

My senior mom grandkids love gardenias

What a lovely week it’s been. Cool and breezy and full of sweet flowers and flower fragrances (even with the hint of brown on the petals of this lovely gardenia, the scent is just as sweet and strong as ever)! I got a lot of work done! Plus my senior mom is doing well. We enjoyed delightful chats with various grandkids. A sweet blessing indeed!

Summer is Starting

Kaye Swain blogger REALTOR Shares Summer Joys in Roseville Sacramento CA

Summer starts on Tuesday and for our Sacramento area, it will be back to triple digits. But we have so enjoyed the cool interlude. Many Vacation Bible schools are starting this week and next all over. I’m praying for good weather for all across the country and for kids to be blessed everywhere!

Greeting Card Smiles

Some of my friends have had a tough week so off I went to buy some cute cards to bring a smile to their faces. I found some adorable kitty cat get well cards and doggy get well cards at my local Raley’s grocery store. I’m hoping to be test driving a greeting card app soon and will let you know how it does. That would definitely be handy for my long distance loved ones including grandkids, that’s for sure. In the meantime, I need to stop at Family Christian book store to get some more cute get-well greeting cards. What’s your fave place to get cards?

Swimming Pool Joys With Grandkids

While I was at Walmart recently, I spotted my favorite little puddle pools. I won’t be needing those this year. My little grandkids won’t be out this summer and my granddog HATES water. Still and all, it can be quite handy even for boomers and seniors. It’s nice to put your feet in while reading outside on warm summer days, don’t you think? It surely brought back some fun memories of grandkids playing in the puddle pool in years past! Like these:

A giant blue turtle - Nope - grandkids hiding in the summr swimming pool

My grandkids and I have been enjoying a wading pool that I park by the sunflowers - butterfly bush - and roses - then I can use the water from the pool to help with my senior moms watering and other gardening activities

Even these pools are getting a bit small for them, though some might set this one out this year.

Love to swim in bigger vinyl swimming pools or smaller inflatable pools - just as long as they are full of sparkling water

Mainly, they are looking forward to the ginormous park pools complete with new and old friends to play with. 🙂  It’s such a joy to see them growing up so beautifully and strong!

Happy Spring into Summer

That’s it for now in my neck of the woods. How’s your spring into summer week shaping up? We’d love to hear – in the comments below or over at Facebook.

Talk to you soon!
