“Boomers & Seniors – News You Can Use” Blog Carnival.

by on January 7, 2009

The inaugural edition of the “Boomers & Seniors – News You Can Use” blog carnival is up and running at the Seniors For Living site – http://budurl.com/BoomersSeniorsBC1 . There are several articles of interest there for all ages. Even my grandkids will like the articles by Brain Blogger, Exercise to Keep Your Brain Healthy and Increase Cerebral Blood Flow and Are Videogames Good for Your Brain which I found in the Brain Fitness Update: Best of 2008 from SharpBrains.  Combining the information that exercise is excellent for all of us, along with the news that playing videogames is beneficial to our brains, I’m thinking my grandkids and I need to play together on the Wii. Especially now that winter rains are keeping us from our outside activities of Dodgeball and Dinosaur Tag.

For the seniors, there is an excellent article by Grace R. Young OT, Safety First , which lists over 30 tips for making a household safer for all and particularly for elderly relatives. I’ve bookmarked this site along with the blog carnival site itself at Delicious, which you can find at http://delicious.com/SandwichINK along with other useful sites already bookmarked.

Another article I bookmarked was by Michelle Seitzer of Seniors For Living, our wonderful blog carnival host. The article, Design Makes a Difference in Today’s Senior Living Homes, discusses the importance good design plays in where your elderly relative lives, whether it’s their own home or one they are moving into. I had never thought about it before, but she explains, among other things, how important different carpet styles and designs can be for someone with vision problems. You’ll find some excellent advice there on this topic.

If you like Actress Ellen Albertini Dow, who appeared as the rapping granny in Adam Sandler’s The Wedding Singer , you’ll enjoy the article, interview, and clip by Bill Shafer in Growing Bolder. Would you believe she’s 90! I hope I’m going that great when I’m 90!

And yes, you’ll find “yours truly” there as well, with a reprise of my article, Caregivers Come in All Different Shapes, Sizes and Sexes. Discussing the challenges some caregivers can face when they are the opposite sex of the recipient, even if it’s their own parent, there are also some interesting and useful comments that have recently been added.

For all of these and many more articles of interest to Boomers and Seniors, do pop over to http://budurl.com/BoomersSeniorsBC1 . See you on the Wii board playing tennis! Oops, first I have to get a Wii. :)
